Whānau Ora Kaiārahi / Social Worker

Join Kōkiri Marae in a specialized Kaiārahi role dedicated to advocating for whānau and
ensuring support is meaningfully recognised. You will walk alongside whānau, keeping their
voice at the forefront while providing the structure, whanaungatanga, and accountability
needed to fulfill their goals.
About the Role
This focused kaiarahi role centers on the active implementation, oversight, and monitoring of
response. Working under a holistic Whānau Ora framework, you will ensure agency
commitments are honored, whānau-led goals are kept on track, and wrap-around marae and
community services are seamlessly coordinated to maintain long-term safety, stability, and tino
rangatiratanga.
Key Responsibilities
● Track, monitor, and support the ongoing delivery of agreed S91 plan actions and
outcomes.
● Conduct regular whānau check-ins with front line kaimahi to evaluate progress, identify
barriers early, and adjust support strategies.
● Act as a strong whānau advocate in review meetings, court updates, and agency
engagements (e.g., Oranga Tamariki, health, housing).
● Coordinate internal marae wrap-around services and facilitate external referrals to meet
plan conditions.
● Maintain clear, objective documentation of plan progress, safety markers, and outcome
milestones.
● Actively participate in Kōkiri Marae tikanga, hui, and wider community events.
What You Bring
● Sector Knowledge: Deep understanding of the FGC process, the care and protection
framework, and statutory requirements.
● Cultural Grounding: Grounded in Te Ao Māori with a strong commitment to practicingunder tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
● Navigation & Advocacy: Experience in Whānau Ora navigation, social services, or
youth/family advocacy, with a proven ability to challenge agency drift and hold
stakeholders accountable.
● Communication & Organization: Strong relationship-building skills paired with sharp
task tracking and report-writing skills.
● Practical Requirements: Full NZ Driver’s License and satisfactory Police Vet.
