If you're a woman in New Zealand and you went into your birth expecting something beautiful but came out the other side broken and scarred... this is for you.

I just got my business cards, and like giving birth...I should feel proud. I should be celebrating this win.

But birth trauma support isn't a business I ever thought I'd be building. It doesn't feel exciting or like a celebration I want to have, to need to support countless women with birth trauma. It just makes me really sad and heartbroken, that it is becoming so bloody common.

Birth is a profound rite of passage and we should be leaving our births feeling unstoppable and ready to take on all that Matrescence throws at us. A birthday celebration if you will!

I carried that for a long time.

The guilt of not being there for him.
The silence of a room that
should have held me.
The years of wondering if I was
just overreacting.

I wasn’t.

And if you watched this and
something in you recognised it...
you’re not overreacting either.

Birth trauma doesn’t always
look dramatic from the outside.

Sometimes it just looks like
a woman who can’t quite
put something down.

Who replays it.
Who flinches at certain words.
Who loves her baby completely
and still feels like something
was taken from her.

Something was.

And that deserves to be
witnessed. Properly. Without
anyone telling you how to feel
about it.
