I can get through work, make plans, smile, laugh, and look completely fine.
From the outside, it can seem like I’m coping.
But inside, I’m carrying something that always feels close to spilling.
And sometimes it only takes one small thing.
A song.
A name.
A memory.
A familiar place.
A random moment that should mean nothing.
Then suddenly, everything I have been carefully holding spills over.
That is one of the hardest parts of grief.
It can be quiet for hours, days, even longer.
Then one tiny movement brings it all rushing back.
Healing has not meant that I stopped spilling.
It has meant learning that I do not have to be ashamed when I do.
I can be functioning and still grieving.
I can be healing and still have moments where the grief feels unbearably heavy.
I can be having a good day and still be knocked sideways by one unexpected reminder.
That does not mean I have gone backwards.
It means grief is still part of the love I am carrying.
Some days I hold it steadily.
Some days it overflows.
And both belong to this grief and healing journey.
Because I am not weak when everything spills.
I am human.
I am missing someone I love.
And sometimes one small movement is all it takes to remind me just how much.
