The vagus nerve is one of the body’s main calming pathways ~ Connecting the brain, throat, heart, lungs, gut and nervous system.
When life has been stressful for too long, the body can sometimes get stuck in “survival mode.” This can show up as not wanting to eat, gut issues or bloating, shallow breathing (not engaging diaphragm enough), jaw/neck/shoulder tension, waking up stiff or sore, feeling wired but tired, poor sleep, anxiety, overwhelm, or feeling like you just can’t fully relax.
Your muscles can stay guarded when your nervous system feels under pressure, even while you sleep. That’s why you might wake up tight, tense or feeling like your body hasn’t truly rested.
Simple things like humming, slow intentional breathing, cold water on the face, gentle touch and massage can help signal safety to the body and support the nervous system to soften.
Your body isn’t broken ~ it may just be asking for support, rest and care. 🌿
