Morena whanau,

Thought I would just jump on and thank everyone for the well wishes and support truly grateful you take the time out of your life to check up on me!

I’m still not able to work but my tinana and hinengaro is healing as it should still very tired but I’m on the mend, just taking this time to actually slow down and take care of myself because if you know me I will say I’m slowing down then end up in another kaupapa because I’m tryna force myself to get out there not realising I’ve neglected my tinana and now I’ve been forced to fully stop and re evaluate my life because well I can’t do anything now 😆🤦🏾‍♀️

But I’m so grateful to be on the mend and just to farken actually relax not out here planning a million things in one day also gives me more time to organise our whanau whenua succession which I’m so happy is coming to life

Anywho I will be back when I can whanau again thank you xx

7 days post-op apōpō and I’m actually progressing really well 🥹

I’ve been moving around heaps better and slowly trialling different kai again to figure out what my stomach agrees with and what it absolutely does not 🤣 So far butter, cheese, jam, milk, toast, ice cream and jelly are all good to go. Curry however… absolutely not yet 😭🤣

My biggest craving since being in hospital has randomly been ice cream and jelly, so I’m very happy those have made the cut hahaha.

I can shower myself again, lie on my right side a little bit more, sit down more confidently and I’m walking around heaps. The couch is still uncomfortable, so I’ve been spending most of my time on the bed where I can actually get comfortable.

I even had my first little drive today just around the block and mannnn it felt good to have a tiny bit of freedom again 😭 I’ve been getting cabin fever being restricted to the damn house all week.

I’m just trying my best to heal properly and not get too antsy or impatient. I’ve loved being looked after and taken care of this past week, but now that I’m getting more independent again I’m definitely ready to get my ass home and properly move into my whare 🤣

I haven’t even set my house up yet lol

Slowly but surely though. One week down, getting stronger every day and getting closer to being home in my own space 🤎

Thought I’d give a little life update since it’s been a while 🥰

I had my operation on Tuesday to finally remove my gallbladder! Before surgery I had to do a 2 week pre-op diet to shrink my liver and make surgery easier and safe to say it bloody worked 🤣 I lost 8kgs in 2 weeks and apparently my liver shrunk perfectly, so all that suffering was worth it in the end 😂🙌🏾

I’m home now and officially on the mend ❤️ These incisions are no joke though 😅 I can’t lift anything heavy while everything heals because I’m absolutely terrified of bursting the stitches in my belly button and giving myself a hernia 🫣🤣 so naturally my anxiety has been through the roof.

To some people having your gallbladder removed probably doesn’t seem like a massive deal, but for me it has been. I think mainly because of the unknown and because I’ve had to depend so much on my whānau for awhi. If you know me, you know I’ve always struggled to ask for or accept help because I’m so used to relying on myself.

But with everything that’s happened with my health over the last few months, I’m slowly learning that I don’t have to do everything by myself and that it’s okay to let my village look after me too. 🥹❤️

My beautiful aunty came all the way up from Auckland just to look after me, cook me healing kai and be my support person. My dad has even had to help shower me because I’m so bloody bloated and bending over right now is an Olympic sport 😭🤣 I’m incredibly grateful for them.

And no, I still haven’t pooped yet. 🫣🤣🤣 I AM TERRIFIED. The hospital forgot to give me my laxatives 🤦🏾‍♀️😂 so I’ve been smashing the kiwifruit, fibre and water and walking around trying to convince my bowels to participate. Pray for me when the day finally comes 🤣🤣

It’s definitely been an adjustment coming home after having nurses looking after me 24/7, but at the same time it feels so good to be home.

Healing is going to take a little longer than I thought and apparently patience is another lesson I’m being forced to learn 😂 but hei aha, I’m pretty strong 💪🏾❤️ One day at a time.

Hopefully I’ll be moving around properly and driving again before I know it because sitting still definitely isn’t my strong suit 🤣

For now though — rest, healing kai, little walks and letting my village awhi me. ❤️‍🩹

This week has been so up and down and wishy washy 😭🤣 in and out of hospital and my bed, but somehow some way I STILL managed to move into my whare 🥹🥰

Couldn’t have done it without my whānau who came and helped me, especially my daddy!! 🥹 I’m sooo excited to finally have my own space. A sanctuary, if you will ✨

With everything going on with my health lately I’ve definitely felt defeated this week. So much pressure and fluid in my brain has made it hard to stay upright for too long because lying down is where I feel best. I’m still trying to adjust to this weird new norm while I wait to get the right help. I’ve felt like a zombie, looked like one too 😭🤣

BUTTT the highlight through all of it was getting my stuff moved into my whare… even though I’m currently not even there 😭🤣 nobody wanted to stay with me and apparently I can’t be alone in case something happens 🙄😂 fml.

And OOOOP on top of all that, I had to start my pre-op diet for my gallbladder removal 🥲🤣 only to realise I’d been UNDER FEEDING MYSELF basically the whole week because I read my meal plan completely wrong 😭😭 no wonder I was wondering why tf I was so lethargic.

Anywhoooo… that’s my life right now 🤣🥲 but amongst all the chaos, I GOT MY WHAREEEEEE 🏡🥹🥰 and I cannot wait to turn it into my little sanctuary.

Whānau, after this weekend I’ve made the decision to take the next month off from bookings.

For a long time I’ve been putting myself and my health on the back burner trying to push through and get my business stable. But I’ve realised that if I’m not healthy my business can’t thrive either.

With all my health appointments, upcoming surgeries, moving into my new whare and just life in general I’ve found myself becoming overwhelmed. It’s time to slow down, reset and put the same aroha back into myself that I pour into everyone else.

I’m incredibly grateful for the people in my life who have understood this season and have given me the space and time to heal without the pressure of money or obligations. And I’m also proud of myself for standing back in my own mana and giving myself permission to rest.

This isn’t giving up. It’s making sure I can come back stronger, healthier and able to serve from a full cup instead of an empty one.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who has supported me on this journey. I’ll see you all soon. ❤️

Māori, Pacific people and young people are not being prioritised when it comes to accessing mental health support, a new report has found, despite evidence clearly demonstrating these groups need a higher level of support.

Kia ora whānau,

This is me almost 7 days post-op after corneal cross-linking surgery (I think that’s what it’s called 😂).

About 6 hours after surgery I ended up in ED with excruciating pain in my right eye. I honestly had myself convinced something had gone wrong because my left eye felt exactly how my surgeon said it would, but my right eye was on a whole different level. Even the doctors couldn’t figure out what was causing the extra pain. Looking back now, I think I just got myself really worked up because it was so intense.

Anyway… everything turned out to be fine, apart from spending the night in hospital. 😆

Now here’s the funny part…

The nurse was meant to guide me to the toilet because I couldn’t open my eyes… instead she accidentally walked me straight into the sink or the door I don’t even know 😭🤣

THEN the optometrist had me walk from my ward all the way to the optometry ward… still unable to open my eyes. 😭😂

At the time it definitely wasn’t funny, but once I was a bit more with it I couldn’t help but laugh because the whole situation was absolutely diabolical. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤣 but I did have the best care! I just thought these events were crack up 😭😆

swelling has definitely come down a lot the headaches are still very prominent, I hate the sunlight, one minute I’m good the next minute I’m in bed curled up trying to escape the daylight and the noises 😭

Life is extra busy this week with all that’s going on (for the better) IYKYK! But I am on the mend each day is a step closer to being back to normal 😊

Truly was the best day!! And to think I almost let anxiety tell me not to go 😆🫶 Hine Mauri I truly reccomend attending one of their wananga wahine mā! It was so refreshing to be in a room full of mana wahine and connect with others

Our tinana isn’t meant to carry everything forever.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is slow down.

Just like a river, our bodies are always moving. Some days everything flows with ease, and other days we hold onto things that were never ours to carry.

Stress.
Grief.
Pressure.
Life.

Our tinana has a way of reminding us when it’s had enough.

Take a moment to check in with yourself.

How are you really feeling?

Not the answer you give everyone else… the honest one.

Be kind to yourself. Your body has carried you through every season of your life and it deserves to be looked after too.

I also needed this reminder how about you?
