He has been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy and respiratory failure .He is currently on assisted ventilation using a mechanical ventilator. Jonathan Ila was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy when he was just 8 years old in 2002. The condition is a degenerative condition with slow deterioration over time. The condition has now progressed to a stage that is now affecting his respiratory muscles, w
hich caused difficulties in breathing on his own, without an assistance. Jonathan Ila was admitted to Angau Hospital on the 8th of February, 2020 with type 2 Respirator Failure. He was put on a mechanical ventilator to assist his breathing efforts. Over time his general and overall condition has improved however he is still unable to breath on his own. Multiple attempts were made to try to wean him of the mechanical ventilator so that he can be able to breath on his own. All failed weaning attempts were a total of 22 attempts. Jonathan Ila is now dependent on the Mechanical
Ventilation to allow him to breath. Jonathan Ila has spent 2 years, 7 months and currently still fighting for his life in the ICU at Angau Memorial Hospital. Upon discussion with Doctors and other specialists and physicians, we have concluded that Mr. Ila is now completely dependent on assisted mechanical ventilation. He will need to have continuous assisted mechanical ventilation long term and possibly for life. When discharged he will need to have a mechanical ventilation at home. He is currently stable with the generalised muscle weakness and paralysis, Respiratory failure is his main problem.
