UP Manila Teams Up with Balulang for Vital Research on Teenage Pregnancy

A significant visit took place yesterday, July 17, 2025, as a team from UP Manila arrived in Barangay Balulang. The purpose of the visit was to discuss further the conduct of crucial research on the incidence of teenage pregnancy and assess post-natal care for adolescent mothers in the community.

This vital initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the City Health Office, the Barangay Balulang Health Department, and was warmly facilitated by Punong Barangay Edwin Micabani.

Together, we are committed to understanding and improving the health and well-being of our youth!

𝗗𝗨𝗚𝗢 𝗠𝗢, 𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗕𝗨𝗛𝗜 𝗞𝗢

On March 1, 2025, the Lower Balulang Health Center and Xavier Heights Health Center in collaboration with the Department of Health-Center for Health Development Northern Mindanao conducted a bloodletting program for Brgy Balulang residents at Villa Angela Covered Court, Balulang.

Residents who participated in the program were incentivized with a half tray of egg and a 3 kilos of rice.

The activity was made possible through the support of Punong Barangay Edwin Micabani and with the assistance of DOH R10.

On February 19, 2025, the Adolescent Friendly Health Facility (AFHF) conducted a Healthy Young Ones (HYO) to adolescents and youth age 10 to 19 years old at Xavier Heights Health Center, Balulang.

The IEC was made possible through the Barangay Health Workers (BHW), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), peer educators, NDP and with the presence of Jennifer Gallegos. Snacks were provided by the City Health Office (CHO).

HYO aims to address the challenge that health care providers are facing in providing adolescents information, skills about their self, sexuality, and sexual health.

The Barangay Balulang Health Board convened for its 1st meeting of 2025 on January 27 at the Barangay Session Hall, Cagayan de Oro City. This important gathering was attended by PB Edwin Micabani, healthcare professionals, and representatives from various sectors to discuss key public health matters.

The meeting addressed significant topics, including updates on teenage pregnancy data for 2024, accomplishments of the Health and Nutrition Departments, the Barangay Health Action Plan for 2025, and the Level 3 Assessment Schedule. These discussions underscored the collective commitment of the board to delivering equitable and sustainable healthcare services for the community.

The barangay puts primacy on the importance of collaboration in addressing public health challenges and advancing the well-being of Barangay Balulang’s residents. Through the shared efforts of all involved, the barangay remains steadfast in its mission to ensure quality healthcare for all.

On January 15, 2025, Ms Joy Pamatian of Bodega sa Grasya visited Barangay Balulang, this city. The non-government organization conducted a Gift Giving activity to handover goods and kits for pregnant women, persons-with-disability, and teen parents of the barangay.

Bodega sa Grasya is one of the community partners of Barangay Balulang under Integrated Service Delivery Network for Adolescent Health and Development (ISDN-AHD). This network was first created under the leadership of PB Edwin Micabani.

𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗔𝗡 𝗖𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗣𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗨𝗘𝗦 𝗕𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗛𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗧 𝗕𝗥𝗚𝗬 𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗚, 𝗖𝗗𝗢

On December 5, 2024, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)–Iligan City and Barangay Secretaries led by its City Director, Ms Maida Daniot, CESE held a benchmarking activity at Barangay Balulang, this city. The welcoming of the visitors was led by PB Edwin Micabani.

The benchmarking activity centers on the best practices of the barangay of its different committees, one of which is under health services particularly in the Adolescent Friendly Health Facility (AFHF).

Barangay Balulang proudly presents its Adolescent Friendly Health Facility located in Lower Balulang Health Center and Xavier Heights, Upper Balulang Health center.

In Brgy Balulang, the facility is shaped following the national standards but made unique to cater the needs of the youth in our community. This approach will enrich the delivery of adolescent health-related services even more. It is part of a broader effort to improve health outcomes for adolescents by creating a supportive and understanding environment.

𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗦 𝗙𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗬 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗛

On September 6, 2024, through the Adolescent Friendly Health Facility (AFHF) and leadership of PB Edwin E Micabani, Barangay Balulang conducts Family Planning Outreach at Villa Angela Covered Court, Balulang.

The outreach was attended by adolescent parents of Balulang, with the City Health Office (CHO) as the prime partner of the activity. The program began with a brief talk or information, education campaign on family planning, followed by an outreach activity for those willing teenparents to avail free FP services; adult parents also availed the same services.

The celebration aims to intensify campaigns of healthy adolescents and create a venue to respond to adolescents' specific needs.
