👁️ What does it mean to be a Glaucoma Disc Suspect?

These are photos of my own optic nerves, which appear to have a relatively large and deep-looking cups. This is called optic disc cupping.

Pero ibig bang sabihin ba nito ay may glaucoma na agad? Not necessarily!

Some people naturally have larger optic nerve cups. However, cupping may also be a sign of glaucoma, a disease that can gradually damage the optic nerve and lead to permanent vision loss.

An Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scan helps us look beneath the surface and assess the nerve fibers for signs of structural damage, even before noticeable changes in vision occur. It is a safe procedure that can determine if the cupping is physiologic or pathologic na.

In summary (in summary?!), having cupping sa optic nerve does not automatically mean you have glaucoma. But it is important to monitor them regularly to detect any changes early.💚
