Love and Health

It took me some time to fill up this space in our FB page. Though pressing, I took my time because I would love to reserve this space to make my audience feel the reason behind our business.

I lost my mom at a tender age of 21. She was only 42 years old. I know some people might lose their parents at an even younger age, or some, much later. But through the years I understood that no one can move forward from losing a loved one. We just live by and drift on. In my case, not just my mom but my aunts as well. And for me, one big factor is good health. You see, we are such a loving family so we always have heart issues. This, on top of being sweet (diabetics), passionate (high blood!), and takes your breath away (asthma attacks). Thus, I learned early on that this is our family history. That may be, I will also end up dying young like them. Frequently visiting family doctors when I grow old and gray if ever I reach that timeline.

Until I experience loving. No, this is not actually a romantic note. Loving yourself is also one form as well as caring for your neighbor. I dream of aging until 100 together with people close to my heart, doing and rocking the world with everything I can share. WTH, God created me for greatness and He showered me gifts that I need to share. I would love to live long - happy, healthy, loving! This started a different approach in my life. I need to be healthy to live this dream. But I cannot be alone when I grow old. I need my friends to be healthy, as well. I need to choose the foods that I will eat so as not to have an ill-effect on my health in the future.

So when I presented my business plan to A-LSE program, a social entrepreneurship program by Ateneo de Manila University, mine was healthy eating. All the healthy goodness that is inconvenient to find in a vending machine, within your reach 24/7! How perfect. This is the brainchild of shoplokalph. As my business mentor said, the key for budding entrepreneurs is to get started and learn how to scale down! Since the vending machine investments present so many hurdles to my business model, I simply removed it. For now.

To date, ShopLokalPH has sold more than 3000 pouches of mushroom crisps, gaining traction on distributing malunggay infused spreads and mueslis. We have sponsored fitness events, became the travel companion of many, made drinking events extra healthier with organic oyster mushrooms and graced family reunion and gatherings. We are reshaping cafe, restaurants and pasalubong centers by providing alternative healthy options from the commonly and easily available low nutrient dense snacks (aka junk foods). We are proud of having a network of resellers helping us spread healthy and yummy goodness to your tummies while earning additional income. We have reached different countries as far as Paris, France with our #irresistiblytempting ButtonsUp mushrooms and has regular distribution in Singapore thru our partnership with Filshopper.

We have partnered with plant-based producers and attended different wellness fair. Most of it in partnership with the leading HMO provider in the country. We are proud to carry vegan-friendly and gluten-free snack items in our store and distribution points.

Indeed, our trading and distribution venture is just baby steps to reach our targets. But just like a baby starting to learn how to walk, and the parents adoringly watching their babies fall and stand up, we at ShopLokalPH aims to continuously grow and reach new heights. Together with our partner producers, we will move hand-in-hand to jump in the market of healthy eating, alternative food options and educating our stakeholders of healthy choices.

Being healthy is not just about spending less on medicine and hospital bills. Or being able to wear nice fitting clothes and looking good. But more so, it is staying alive to see your family grow up, walking them to the aisle if they choose to get married, strolling together on late afternoons, climbing mountaintops and diving the ocean floors together whenever you feel like it, most of all being there to just love.

To be healthy and staying healthy is to love unselfishly.
