Last night’s Christmas party was a simple but meaningful reminder of how grateful I am to be part of the SGMC family.

As the year ends, thank you for the warmth, trust, and generosity shown to all of us — physicians, nurses, staff, and most especially our patients. This year held both heartbreak and hope: moments of loss that stayed with us, and moments of joy when patients finally went home healed. We carried all of it together.

What a year it has been - humbling, demanding, and deeply meaningful. Thank you, Lord, for all the blessings, and thank you to this family for walking through this year side by side. 🎆

Today, my patient’s HIV viral load came back undetectable. He messaged me right away, saying I was the first person he thought of — and even left me a cake, his thoughtful way of celebrating this milestone and showing his gratitude. ✨

Plus points because the cake was ube — my favorite! 💜 The sweetness of the gesture (and the cake) made the moment even more meaningful. Small things like this remind me how much kindness my patients give back, and how healing is as much about connection as it is about medicine.

Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U).
This means that people living with HIV who are on treatment and have undetectable viral loads cannot pass the virus to others. This is the power of care, consistency, and compassion.

To my patients: thank you for letting me share in your victories. Your wins are my wins, too.

Every lab result can be life-changing, and every small win deserves to be celebrated — especially when it comes with hope, gratitude, and a slice of ube cake. 🌈🍰

This afternoon, I was handed something simple — a bag of avocados, freshly picked from the backyard of my 74-year-old patient. Not store-bought, not wrapped in ribbon — just nestled in a reusable bag, still carrying the scent of sun and soil.

They were huge (I gasped a little), and yes — avocados are my favorite. But more than the fruit itself, what truly moved me was this gentle gesture… a quiet “thank you” from someone who trusted me to care for her, and still does.

There is something sacred about that trust.

It reminds me that being a doctor is not just about test results, diagnoses, or prescriptions. It’s about presence. Patience. Paying attention. It’s about becoming a small part of someone’s story — and being invited back, season after season.

To my patients:
Thank you for the privilege of being your doctor.
Thank you for the stories, the small talks, the still-warm harvests, and the moments of honesty and hope you bring into my day.

You make this work meaningful, and my life infinitely richer.
