🔶There’s a strong and important connection between oedema (swelling) and kidney function.

🧠 How the kidneys normally prevent swelling
Your kidneys:
🔸Filter waste and remove excess fluid
🔸Balance salt (sodium) levels
🔸Help control blood pressure
‼️When they’re working well → fluid stays in balance and doesn’t build up in tissues.

⚠️ What happens when kidneys are not working properly
✔️In kidney problems (especially Chronic Kidney Disease or Nephrotic Syndrome):
1. Fluid retention
🔸Kidneys can’t remove extra water effectively
🔸Fluid builds up in the body → oedema

📍 Common areas:
▪️Feet and ankles
▪️Legs
▪️Hands
▪️Face (especially around the eyes)

2. Sodium (salt) retention
✔️Kidneys hold onto sodium
✔️Sodium pulls water with it
