Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is an aggressive breast cancer that often looks different from other types of breast cancers. It may not cause a distinct lump, and its warning signs can often look like mastitis (an infection of the breast).

On IBC Awareness Day, we're sharing key warning signs to know and highlighting efforts to improve how IBC is identified. Greater awareness among both patients and health care providers can help support earlier and more consistent diagnosis and get people the treatment they need faster.

Learn more about IBC, our collaborative work in this area and resources for patients and clinicians at Komen.org/ibc

Let's be honest. Breast cancer isn't over. We can't accept today's limits as the best that we can do. We have to keep working tirelessly toward a future where no one dies from breast cancer.

Your gift today today is matched 4x by our partners at Bank of America. This October, take action. https://bit.ly/4xU7W8T

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been chosen as the first charity partner to help deliver the Renewed Women’s Health Strategy, working with the Department of Health and Social Care - DHSC.

Our partnership will support women across the country to spot the signs and know where to turn to for help at every stage of their breast cancer journey.

We have 3 clear aims to help women spot breast cancer sooner:

To make regular breast checking a habit, and to give women the information they need to recognise the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and know where to go if they notice anything unusual.

To support women finishing primary breast cancer treatment with the information they need to spot the signs of breast cancer coming back.

To provide women with easily accessible, trusted health information at every stage of their breast cancer journey.

Together, we’ll make greater progress, faster. Getting our information and awareness campaigns in even more places, and reaching even more people. So we can make sure every woman gets the information and support to spot breast cancer sooner, and we get closer to the day when everyone with breast cancer lives and lives well.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎀

This month, we honor the strength, courage, and resilience of every woman who has faced breast cancer — those currently fighting, the survivors, and the families who have walked beside them.

As women’s health providers, we also have hope for the future.

We hope for a day when more breast cancer survivors have safe, evidence-based options to address the symptoms that can profoundly affect their quality of life after treatment — including conversations around hormones when and if the research supports their safe use.

We are incredibly excited by the researchers, clinicians, and advocates who continue to ask the hard questions, study women specifically, and challenge us to learn more.

Because surviving cancer should be only the beginning.

Women deserve the opportunity not only to survive — but to feel strong, healthy, vibrant, confident, and well.

We’ll keep learning. We’ll keep advocating. And we’ll keep watching the science evolve in hopes that the future brings more safe wellness options for ALL women. 💗

To every breast cancer survivor: we see your strength, and we are hopeful for what the future of women’s health holds.

October is coming.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

And if I’m being honest, I have a complicated relationship with it this year.

Because for a lot of people, breast cancer gets a month.
For some of us, we live with it all year.

We live with it in our bodies.
In our scars.
In our medications.
In the weight gain.
In the hot flashes.
In the soaked sheets.
In the way we think.
In the way we feel.
In the way we look at ourselves.
In the things treatment took from us that people do not always talk about.

I miss my old self.
I miss my old body.
I miss my old way of thinking.
I miss my eyelashes.
I miss not taking having to conserve energy.
I miss not gaining weight when I breathe near a calorie.
I miss my old temperament.
I miss waking up dry and rested instead of drenched in sweat.

And, and, and.

So maybe that is what feels hard about October.

Not because awareness is bad.
Not because I do not care.
I care deeply.

But I do not need one month to remind me breast cancer exists. I live with the aftermath every day.

Still, I will fight.
I will be courageous.
And I will continue cheering on every woman and every person walking this road, because this is what life dealt me.

So for Mission 30 this October, I want to know what you need.

What do you want to talk about?
What questions do you have?
What do you wish someone had told you?

Let’s talk about the real stuff.
Diagnosis. Treatment. Survivorship. Menopause. Fertility. Body image. S*x. Fear. Anger. The psychological aftermath. Life after cancer.

Nothing sugarcoated. Nothing wrapped in a pink bow.

Just real conversation. 🩷🤍🖤

Be aware of common breast cancer symptoms. Early diagnosis of generally increases the chances of successful treatment. People with an abnormal breast lump should seek medical care, even if the lump does not hurt.
