The Anatomy of the Visual Pathway
Paano ba talaga tayo nakakakita?
Ang pagtingin ay hindi lang simpleng pagtanggap ng ilaw ng ating mga mata. Ito ay isang komplikadong proseso kung saan nagtutulungan ang eyes at brain para mabuo ang images na nakikita natin araw-araw.
Step 1: The Gateway to Vision — The Retinas
Nagsisimula ang lahat kapag ang light ay pumapasok sa eyes at tumatama sa retina, ang light-sensitive layer sa likod ng eyeball.
Sa retina matatagpuan ang millions of rods and cones na nagco-convert ng light into electrical signals. Dito pa lang nagsisimula na ang processing ng visual information bago pa ito makarating sa brain.
Step 2: The Optic Nerves — The Vision Cables
Ang electrical signals mula sa retina ay dumadaan sa optic nerves.
Parang biological cables ang optic nerves na nagdadala ng lahat ng visual information papunta sa brain—kasama ang colors, shapes, movement, at details ng paligid natin.
Step 3: The Optic Chiasm — The Grand Switch
Sa gitna ng brain, nagtatagpo ang optic nerves sa tinatawag na optic chiasm.
Dito nangyayari ang “crossing over” ng visual information. Ang nakikita ng right side ng eyes ay pinoproseso ng left side ng brain, habang ang left visual field naman ay pinoproseso ng right side ng brain.
Napakahalaga nito para magkaroon tayo ng depth perception at malinaw na understanding ng paligid.
Step 4: The Optic Tracts — The Path to Processing
Pagkatapos ng crossing, nagpapatuloy ang signals sa optic tracts.
Dinadala nito ang reorganized visual information papunta sa thalamus, isang relay station ng brain na tumutulong magproseso ng visual signals.
Step 5: The Optic Radiations — The Final Transmission
Mula sa thalamus, kumakalat ang signals sa pamamagitan ng optic radiations.

Step 6: The Visual Cortex — Where the Brain Truly Sees

Dito ini-interpret ng brain ang lahat ng impormasyon—colors, shapes, movement, distance, at spatial orientation.
