We are proud to share that the inspiring success story of Sophia, a pediatric cardiology patient of the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC), has been selected as one of the Best Zero Balance Billing (ZBB) Success Stories for the Sugod Bahay – National Hospital Week 2026 ZBB Edition. 🎉

Diagnosed before birth with a complex congenital heart condition, Sophia has faced her health journey with courage and the support of her family and healthcare team.

Her story, documented and submitted by the PCMC Patients Assistance & Support Services Division (PASSD), was recognized among entries from participating hospitals for highlighting the impact of ZBB in making essential healthcare more accessible and equitable for Filipino patients.

> PSP-Accredited, 4-year residency training in Combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology

> Position: Medical Officer III (Plantilla position)

> Compensation: Salary Grade 21 with 13th and 14th month pay, Philhealth shares, benefits of having a Plantilla position (GSIS, PAG-IBIG, Philhealth, hospital employee discounts, Christmas groceries), and other bonuses

> Train in a well-balanced environment under several consultants with a variety of Pathology subspecialties, including: Pediatric, Hematology, Breast, Gynecologic and Perinatal, Hepatobiliary, and Neuropathology

> Good autopsy census (no problems meeting the requirements to take the board exams!)

> With a molecular pathology section where we look at flow cytometry and fluorescence-in-situ-hybridization (FISH) cases!

> Train in our tertiary laboratory and tertiary blood bank with additional functions, the highest classification for blood bank facilities

> PCMC is one of the premier pediatric institutions, so we see many pediatric cases but see adult cases as well!
