❗posting this for awareness. as a freelance piercer who also started small — looking back 3 years from now, the piercing community grew rapidly. now, people don't solely do it for the aesthetic; it has also become a core for self-expression and one's identity.
i noticed how people who get body piercings increased throughout my career as a freelance piercer :> which is a good thing. however, it came to my attention that together with the increasing number of people getting their bodies pierced, "amateur" or "hobbyist" piercers also spread widely.
i really have nothing against these people, BUT it can be concerning — because piercing is more than just poking a needle into someone's face or body. it comes with so many risks, as most of those piercers don't really have any idea or never studied anatomy — how anatomy differs from individual to individual, and how same piercing styles might differ depending on someone's anatomy.
💀 it's just alarming to see that these "piercers" offer piercings at such low or cheap rates. even the hardest piercings to execute are being sold at cheap prices.
❗example: this one moot does lobe for 20php and an industrial for 50php 💀keep in mind that industrial is a tricky one.
++ most of them are minors : (((( a professional piercer can't even perform a piercing on a minor without a guardian's consent, and seeing that people at such age are allowed to pierce someone is just beyond scary. actually, "alarming" is an understatement, i'd say — because these people really have no idea what they are doing, and the clients they get have zero idea where they get their tools from or if those said tools are clean enough to perform a piercing safely.
++++ it also came to my attention how these hobbyist piercers cater to clients without really showing a background❓ just a catchy caption and good pubmat, then all good 💀 i also saw someone who said it’s a "client’s fault" if the piercing rejects...
❓❓ note:
a piercer's technique (angle, depth, placement, anatomy analysis) /// and choice of jewelry (type of jewelry, length, material, gauge) play a big role in whether a piercing will reject or not. a client can only be at fault if they FAIL to take care of their piercings.
additionally, i'm not saying that every “affordable” piercing is bad — it depends on the piercer and how they sell their brand.
(ex: i keep my prices affordable because aside from not having a designated shop yet, i also believe that self-expression shouldn’t cost a lot.)
++ i'm also not saying that every “high piercing rate” is automatically good.
as a client or a person planning to get pierced one day, it’s still your job to check a piercer’s background. you have the right to ask for proof from them, and the right to question whether they’re qualified to perform a body mod or not — since it’s your body we’re talking about in the first place :>
❗just be attentive to red flags and always check.❗
🖤HAPPY PIERCING! 🖤
