PRC JOINS IFRC, ICRC, AND 191 NATIONAL SOCIETIES IN CELEBRATING WORLD RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT DAY 2026

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) joins the global celebration of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8, 2026, marking 79 years of nonstop commitment to helping communities worldwide alongside the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and 191 Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies.

The international observance follows the theme โ€œUnited in Humanity,โ€ meant to celebrate the volunteers and staff whose support and compassion toward communities shine amidst crises and emergencies around the world.

The day also serves as a call to uphold and protect humanitarian work, ensuring timely support is given to those most in need.

โ€œThe Philippine Red Cross volunteers are the backbone of the entire organization. Without their help, it would be nearly impossible to expand our reach and services in the farthest regions of the country. This day is meant to celebrate not only them, but also the millions of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers worldwide who continue to serve humanity,โ€ said PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement grew from an idea by Jean Henry Dunant in 1859 after witnessing the suffering brought by the Battle of Solferino in Italy.

Today, the Movement is composed of the ICRC, the IFRC, and 191 National Societies working together as the worldโ€™s largest humanitarian network.

โ€œThe Philippine Red Cross will always look up to the ICRC, IFRC, and our fellow National Societies, and celebrate their humanitarian achievements across the world. Rest assured, the organization will continue strengthening its services in the country while remaining united with the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in serving those most in need,โ€ PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang stated.

The PRC commits its adherence to this yearโ€™s theme and ensures its application in the various humanitarian services it offers nationwide.

Today, we honor the hard work, resilience, and unwavering dedication that move our nation forward. At the Philippine Red Cross, we celebrate the hands that serve and the hearts that careโ€”from our first responders and medical teams to our logisticians and blood services staff. Your labor saves lives.

"Labor is not just about a paycheck; it is about human dignity, purpose, and the relentless drive to build a better future for our families and our country." - Richard J. Gordon , PRC Chairman & CEO

On this Labor Day, the Philippine Red Cross salutes every Filipino worker. We specifically honor our PRC heroes who work tirelesslyโ€”often behind the scenesโ€”to deliver humanitarian aid wherever it is needed.

Your dedication is the backbone of our mission. Maraming salamat sa inyong serbisyo!

This Easter Sunday, as light breaks through the darkness, we are reminded that hope is never lostโ€”and neither is our commitment to serve.

To our dedicated volunteers and staff across the nation, who stood on the frontlines throughout Holy Weekโ€”your sacrifice, compassion, and unwavering readiness brought comfort, safety, and hope to countless lives. You embody the true spirit of service.

โ€œJust as Easter reminds us that life triumphs over sacrifice, your selfless service proves that compassion will always rise above adversity. I commend each and every one of you for your courage, discipline, and heart to serve. The nation is stronger because of you.โ€
