A well-known study from Natural Resources Institute Finland, published in Science Advances, investigated how nature-based playgrounds affect children’s health. In this 28-day experiment, researchers modified urban daycare yards by adding forest soil, grass, and plants, and observed around 75 children aged 3–5. Compared to children playing in standard urban environments (with gravel or artificial surfaces), those exposed to natural materials showed a noticeable increase in the diversity of beneficial microbes on their skin and in their gut.

These microbial changes were linked to improvements in immune system function, including higher levels of immune-regulating cells such as T-cells and better balance in immune responses. However, the study did not claim a dramatic or instant “boost” in overall health; instead, it showed early signs of improved immune regulation, which may help protect against inflammatory and autoimmune conditions over time. The findings suggest that regular contact with natural environments can play an important role in supporting children’s developing immune systems.

Let’s Rethink Play. Let’s Rethink Inclusion.

What if the best playground isn’t the cleanest… but the most meaningful?

We are naturally connected to nature.
Before structured play existed, children learned through earth, water, wind, and movement.
Nature speaks to the body in ways that structured environments cannot — through:
✅The feel of soil grounding the senses
✅ The warmth of the sun regulating the body
✅ The rhythm of water calming the mind
✅ The breeze awakening awareness and focus

This connection supports regulation, attention, and emotional balance — especially for children who experience the world differently.

🌱 When children play in nature, they don’t just play — they connect.
They connect to their bodies.
They connect to their environment.
They connect to themselves.

🌱 Inclusion is not always about structure — sometimes, it’s about freedom.

Let’s create spaces where every child can explore, feel, move, and grow — naturally.

Day 10: Nature Exploration!

Today, our exceptional learners continued their outdoor adventure through meaningful hands-on activities focused on caring for nature, planting, and discovery.

From planting seeds and flowers, watering plants, digging in the soil, decorating pots, and collecting natural materials to enjoying a fun nature scavenger hunt, each activity encouraged creativity, responsibility, and a deeper connection with the world around them.

Through these experiences, our learners developed their sensory skills, fine motor coordination, patience, focus, and appreciation for nature while learning through play and exploration.
Growing little hands, curious minds, and caring hearts - one activity at a time!
