I couldn’t pass up this vibrant abundance at the market today.. all of these for just 25 pesos! I'm from La Union, by the way.
When the Earth is this generous, the best way to honor the harvest is to preserve it. These are now sun-drying to lock in that fiery Yang energy for the months ahead.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, chili peppers (La Jiao) are much more than a culinary kick. They are pungent and hot, specifically entering the Spleen and Stomach meridians.
Their primary "superpower" is their ability to:
• Dispel Cold & Dampness: Perfect for those with a "Cold" constitution or during damp, rainy seasons.
• Warm the Middle Jiao: They help kickstart a sluggish digestive fire.
• Move the Qi: Their acrid nature helps break up stagnation and get the body’s energy flowing.
As with any potent herb, balance is key. Because chilies are intensely heating, they can easily consume Yin and fluids. I recommend avoiding or limiting them if you are experiencing:
• Excess Heat: (e.g., mouth sores, night sweats, or a very red tongue).
• Stomach Fire: (e.g., acid reflux or Gastritis).
• Skin Inflammation: Chronic heat can sometimes manifest as "Damp-Heat" on the skin.
