The community of Sapa Moro, Barangay Latuan, successfully launched its PuroKalusugan (PK) Kick-Off Activity last May 14, 2026.
The initiative aimed to bring essential healthcare services, preventive medical assessments, and vital health education directly to the grassroots level, ensuring that quality healthcare reaches every member of the community.
The activity featured a series of informative and interactive health education sessions led by guest speakers. Sir Aldrich B. Arquiza discussed breast and cervical cancer awareness, emphasizing the importance of early detection and prevention. Ms. Belinda Gabito conducted a lecture on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), promoting healthy practices within households and the community. Personnel from Zamboanga City Police Station 2 also delivered a road safety awareness lecture to encourage responsible behavior and accident prevention among residents.
Under the leadership of Medical Officer IV, Dr. Bennajeeb S. Dammang, a wide range of free healthcare services was provided to residents of all ages. Maternal and Child Health services included routine immunization for infants aged 0โ11 months, prenatal check-ups for expectant mothers, and a supplemental feeding program for children aged 6โ59 months to support proper nutrition and growth. Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) screening services, including Random Blood Sugar (RBS) testing and PhilPEN risk assessments, were also conducted to identify individuals at risk of chronic diseases. In addition, free medical consultations and health check-ups were provided to community members.
The success of the activity was greatly attributed to the unwavering support of the Barangay Latuan Council, headed by Hon. Robin F. Perez. Barangay officials, kagawads, and tanods actively participated in the planning, coordination, and physical setup of the PuroKalusugan site, demonstrating their commitment to improving community health and well-being.
Overall, the PuroKalusugan Kick-Off Activity was highly successful, serving a total of 70 individuals who benefited from various health interventions and educational sessions. The event showcased the power of collaboration among healthcare workers, local government officials, law enforcement personnel, and community members in promoting better health outcomes and advancing the goals of Universal Health Care.
