5 Tips to Breathe Easier This Winter:
* 1. Wear a Scarf/Mask: Cover your nose and mouth when going outside. This helps warm and humidify the air before it reaches your lungs, preventing irritation.
* 2. Use a Humidifier: Indoor heating dries out the air, which can dry out your airways and thicken mucus. Keep your indoor humidity between 40-60% for optimal lung comfort.
* 3. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of warm fluids (water, tea, broth). This keeps the mucus in your airways thin and easier to clear, helping your lungs flush out pollutants.
* 4. Avoid Indoor Triggers: Be mindful of fireplaces, scented candles, strong cleaning products, and dust from holiday decorations. These can all irritate sensitive airways.
* 5. Always Keep Your Inhaler Handy: If you use a rescue inhaler (for asthma/COPD), ensure it's accessible and in a warm, inside pocket if you go outdoors.
