Recently I was invited as a Guest speaker on World Environment Day at Islamabad Serena Hotel

We are facing a huge crisis today in terms of environmental damage as well human health.

We discussed how improving our diets can be  a win-win for both challenges in health and environment.
We have One Home-One Planet, and there's so much you can do to keep the planet healthy so that your future self and future generations can meet atleast their basic needs.

For that our diets and food system will need to change. Because how and what we eat will impact what and how food is produced.

So as I have been posting about Iron Deficiency Anemia here are some thing you should know about Iron and its absorption in the body.
There are certain factors that come into consideration when Iron is absorbed in the body.
First one is the source. While Iron from animal sources is better absorbed there are some tweaks to enhance Iron absorption from plant based foods.
Such as consuming Vitamin C along with Iron rich foods.
Consume milk, tea and coffee mid meals as they can hinder the absorption
Sprouting, fermenting and soaking grains, nuts and pulses can greatly reduce that phytate content and unlock Iron absorption.

The main role of fibre is to keep the digestive system healthy.
Research shows a much diverse role of fibre in our health such as reduced risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and colorectal cancer.
Fibre keeps our gut bacteria healthy. Although there's still a lot to learn about the role of our gut bacteria but we know that it is surely very important for our health.
To get enough fibre in our diet it is important to include a variety of fibre providing plant-based foods regularly.

All you need is puff pastry and a topping. Jam, Nutella, fruits, cheese or olives, its upto you.

Recently I was invited to a do a session with school children on healthy eating .

Managed to engage the students which was absolutely amazing!

We talked about how snacking, eating more fruit and veg whilst enjoying fast foods can all be a part of a healthy eating and lifestyle.

I firmly believe that nutrition education and knowledge of the food system should be embedded in our education system at an early stage. So that our future generation can differentiate between real and fad information, and lead healthier and happier lives.

Hopefully more schools will value the importance of healthy lifestyle for their students. I look forward to do more sessions in the future.
