In **Gilgit-Baltistan**, the excessive use of toxic chemicals in agricultural fields has made it difficult even to pass through those areas. The use of these chemicals is not only causing various diseases but is also having harmful effects on the environment. Furthermore, the disposal of pesticide bottles and residues into water sources has created serious threats to aquatic life and the ecosystem.

Public circles have demanded that the district administration and the Department of Environment and Wildlife take immediate notice and impose a ban on this harmful practice.

Black carbon or black soot is the by product of burning fossil fuel or smoke from industries and vehicles. Deposits of black carbon have been detected on glaciers across the himalian Karakoram hindukush mountain ranges of Pakistan especially Gilgit-Baltistan. These deposits are significantly accelerating the rate of glacier melt by reducing surface albedo (the ability of ice yo reflect heat/sunlight) and hence increasing the impacts of climate change and altering the hydrological cycle . The source of black carbon is not only local pollution but a huge quantity of black carbon is transported from our near by countries like China- India-tajiskistan -uzbekistan-iran -afghanistan and even from far away countries. This local and trans-boundary pollution highlights the need for a coorindated efforts to address the air quality and to protect the glaciers of Himalian Karakoram Hindu mountains as this region has the greatest reserves of glaciers outside polar region and they are an important and vial part of our mountain ecological system
