DUtract -Dow University Rotaract Rotaract Club of Dow University of Health Sciences Dutract is the Rotaract club at DOW University affiliated with Rotary International.

It is a registered Rotaract Club and was founded in 2016. The intertwining of healthcare professionals with veteran humanitarians has proven to be an extraordinary combination and the club plans on pursuing further local as well as global projects in the future.

Join hands for Humanity and Help Save a Life!

DUtract in collaboration with the Dow Lab is launching the BLOOD TYPING campaign at Dow University of Health Sciences, Ojha campus.

Our aim is to formulate a database with blood types of all individuals at Dow University, hence when someone is in emergent need of a specific type of blood, all the individuals from our data base matching that specific blood type will be contacted by DUtract’s team and anyone willing to donate their blood then be connected with those in need!

All you have to do it get yourself registered! The blood typing will be done be done at a subsidised rate in Dow Lab. You will be given a report of your blood test result, which is a lifelong valid report and can be used anywhere. Your information will be entered in DUtract’s blood type Database. Confidentiality of information is ensured!

Thank you to all the volunteers and everybody who donated water bottles. We collected and distributed a total of 150 bottles today. Seeing your overwhelming response and considering that a few more people wanted to donate water bottles, we our extending our water drive days to tomorrow i.e Tuesday, 24/4/18 at 10:30 am outside Ojha library and Saturday, 28/4/18 1:00 pm at the same place. Anybody who wants to donate water bottles may bring them tomorrow. Kindly make sure the water is well frozen so that cold water can be distributed at the mentioned time.

Attention everyone!

Tomorrow we'll be distributing the water bottles as part of our heat wave campaign. Anyone who wishes to be part of this campaign can still do so by donating water bottles. The campaign will begin at 10:30, so make sure that you donate the bottles before that. You can also volunteer to help us distribute these water bottles.

If you wish to volunteer, you are requested to gather at the back of the library by 10:30, tomorrow. We'll assign you the task then and there. See you guys tomorrow!!

Summer has only just begun in Karachi and most parts of the city are already under the radar of heat wave.
It has been predicted that karachi might experience heatwave in the upcoming months of April and May.
As seen in the past few years,the heat wave has been responsible for hundreds of casualties. In order to prevent any casualties and deaths from heatstroke this year, DUtract is heading a campaign to educate the general public. The campaign aims to educate the general public to recognize the signs of heatstroke if encountered and manage it accordingly. Additionally, the campaign also includes distributing water to patients at Dow Hospital Ojha, and to people at the outskirts of our campus, I.e police guards, beggars, tella owners etc.

Our campaign will begin from tomorrow I.e 10th April 2018 and will continue till May, we hope to carry out this activity till start of Ramadan.

A Bottle of water can help safe a life.

How can you help
1. We welcome water donations, you can buy a water bottle and donate it to our cause
2. We will set up a bottle collection booth at DIMC cafe, you can donate clean and empty water bottles.
3. We welcome volunteers, you can register at DUtract and become an active member and participate in our activities.

With awareness, there is hope. October is breast cancer awareness month and DUtract is actively supporting this cause.

Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death in females worldwide. 90,000 cases are diagnosed every year from which 40,000 are proved fatal. According to research, 1 out of every 8 women is likely to suffer from this disease.

Though the incidence is alarming high, breast cancer can be cured if diagnosed in its early stages, increasing the survival rates up to 90%. However, it is crucial to recognize the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and get it checked as soon as possible.

The Dow University Hospital offers mammograms and encourages awareness of this prevalent disease for prevention education.

The common signs include:
-Formation of a lump in a breast, alongside any other size or shape changes.
-Pain, rash or swelling in the armpits or breast.
-Pitting or redness of the skin of the breast; resembling the skin of an orange.
-Discharge, peeling or flaking.
-Areas of thickened tissue.

The main breast cancer treatment options are radiation therapy (radiotherapy), surgery, biological therapy (targeted drug therapy), hormone therapy and chemotherapy. Key to high survival rate is early diagnosis.

There are persistent ongoing researches being conducted to find a more effective treatment. One such development is a cancer drug duo that could one day eliminate the need for chemotherapy for women with HER2-positive breast cancer; it’s a combination of two drugs that were found to completely eradicate or significantly shrink breast cancer tumors within 11 days of diagnosis.

Pink ribbons will be available around campus to support awareness and education for this cause. Share the message 💝
