At just 5 years old, Abubaker began a treatment that will shape years of his life.

For many, this may seem like a routine medical step.
For a child, it can feel unfamiliar, overwhelming, and uncertain.

At the Wellbeing Center, we understand that treatment does not begin with medicine alone. It begins with trust, emotional readiness, and the way care is experienced.

Because even when treatment is available, acceptance and continuity cannot be taken for granted. Children and families may still carry fear, hesitation, and the emotional weight of beginning a long term journey.

And in early childhood, these moments shape more than treatment behavior. They shape a child’s sense of safety, trust, and relationship with care itself.
Before beginning IV chelation, Abubaker was supported through:

β€’ Simple, age appropriate preparation
β€’ a safe and reassuring environment
β€’ Caregiver support to build confidence and continuity

Because healing is not only physical.
It is emotional, developmental, and deeply human.

What we are building and why it matters.

Since 2015, The Buttercups- your wellbeing coach
has been working across children, youth, caregivers, and communities with one clear understanding:

Wellbeing does not exist in isolation. It is shaped by relationships, environments, and systems.
Our work is grounded in strengthening holistic wellbeing and human development through approaches that are trauma informed, evidence based, and rooted in the realities of the communities we serve.

This means:
β€’ Creating safe spaces where children and young people can express, explore, and grow

β€’ Integrating psychosocial care into both community and clinical settings

β€’ Designing interventions that are culturally relevant and sustainable

β€’ Building the capacity of youth to lead meaningful change within their own communities

This is because real impact is not just about delivering programs. It is about shifting how care, support, and development are understood and practiced.

From early childhood to adolescence, and from community spaces to clinical environments, our work continues to evolve with one purpose:

β€’ To make wellbeing more accessible
β€’ To make care more human
β€’ To make support more deeply connected to the lives people are actually living

This is not just what we do.
This is what we are building!!!

SELM framework–based nature extension sessions are a routinely embedded component of care for children and adolescents living with Thalassaemia major at the @
Psycho Social Well Being Center - KITCC, Kashif Iqbal Thalassaemia Care Centre (KITCC)
These sessions are implemented immediately prior to blood transfusions and IV chelation under continuous supervision by trained psychosocial and public health professionals. Within the Integrated Developmental Psychosocial Care Continuum (IDPCC) Model, mindfulness-informed psychosocial interventions are structurally integrated into clinical pathways to support emotional regulation, cognitive readiness, and procedural preparedness before invasive treatments. Psychosocial wellbeing is not positioned as an adjunct to medical care, but as a mandatory and sustained element of chronic disease management, deliberately designed to strengthen long-term adherence, reduce anticipatory distress, and improve continuity of engagement across repeated treatment cycles. Regular, supervised exposure to SELM-based regulation practices contributes to improved cooperation with procedures, enhanced caregiver confidence, and more coherent care delivery over time. From a public health and health systems perspective, this approach represents a necessary shift from parallel psychosocial inputs toward integrated care designs in which wellbeing is embedded as a core determinant of quality, equity, and sustainability in long-term pediatric chronic care.

In 2015, The Buttercups- your wellbeing coach , under the vision and leadership of Dr.Asma Makhani, laid the foundation for what would become the Psycho Social Well Being Center - KITCC at Kashif Iqbal Thalassaemia Care Centre (KITCC).
The goal was clear then and remains clear today: to ensure that children and adolescents living with Thalassaemia Major are supported not only to survive, but to live full, dignified, and purposeful lives.
Over the years, public health has repeatedly shown that sustainable, long-term psychosocial and vocational wellbeing programs when embedded within clinical care, can significantly improve quality of life, functional independence, and life outcomes for young people living with chronic illness.
Today, we are seeing those outcomes come to life.
Through the Fellowship & Internship Continuum Programs developed at KITCC, adolescents and youth living with Thalassaemia Major are transitioning into real, paid, and meaningful employment within their own care ecosystem.
πŸ“Œ Noman, Naeemullah, and Umar have received job letters within KITCC itself, stepping into professional roles within the department that once supported them.
πŸ“Œ Hamza has successfully completed his fellowship and continues forward on a strengthened career pathway.
From a public health lens, this is systems change in action.
Chronic illness is shaped not only by biology, but by opportunity, inclusion, skills, and dignity. When healthcare models invest in psychosocial wellbeing alongside medical care, outcomes extend far beyond treatment adherence or survival rates.
These young people are no longer positioned only as patients.
They are professionals, contributors, and active participants in their communities.
This is the power of long-term, integrated, adolescent-centered care.
This is what happens when health systems invest in people, not just disease.
We remain deeply committed to building pathways where health, resilience, purpose, and livelihoods grow together.

In 2015, I had established the Psycho Social Well Being Center (PSWC) at Kashif Iqbal Thalassaemia Care Centre -KITCC, it was in response to a gap I witnessed repeatedly in healthcare delivery: children were surviving, but they were not always being supported to live well.
From the beginning, the belief was clear that the psychosocial care is not an optional service. It must be embedded within the medical pathway, alongside transfusions and clinical follow-ups, not separate from them.
Over the past decade, this integrated approach has shown us what becomes possible when healthcare addresses emotional safety, family systems, coping, and development together. Treatment adherence improves. Distress reduces. Quality of life becomes a legitimate outcome, not a secondary concern.
As a founder, I continue to advocate for care models that recognize dignity, participation, and hope as essential components of healingβ€”because medical treatment alone is not enough, and healing is never only physical.
