Young Doctors in Karachi Protest for Fair Compensation and Improved Working Conditions
– Young doctors and medical staff across sindh have launched a protest demanding a 50% increase in salaries, citing stagnation in wages over the past six years and increasingly difficult working conditions.
The protest, which includes doctors, paramedics, and nurses, highlights the challenges faced by healthcare professionals in Pakistan. According to representatives, the current salary levels are insufficient to meet basic financial needs, especially as inflation continues to rise.
“The health sector is severely impacted by inflation, and doctors are struggling to manage their expenses,” said Muzammil Feroze, a reporter for PUBLIC NEWS. “Doctors have reported that their salaries have not seen an increase in six years, making it nearly impossible to keep up with the rising cost of living.”
The protesting medical professionals emphasized the demanding nature of their work, which often involves 36-hour shifts without adequate breaks or compensation. They expressed frustration over the lack of support and the increasing pressure from patients and their families.
“We are working in emergency situations, often for 36 hours straight, and we are not even provided with basic amenities like food,” said one young doctor. “If our demands are not met, we will be forced to take more drastic measures, including a boycott of hospital duties.”
The young doctors have called on the Sindh government to address their concerns immediately and ensure fair compensation for their services. They warned that if the government fails to take action, the protest will escalate, potentially leading to a widespread strike and disruption of healthcare services.
The medical community remains committed to providing quality care to patients but insists that their own well-being and financial security must also be prioritized.
