Baby Noor is just five months old and has been fighting for her life after developing severe post-measles complications — pneumonia, a collapsed lung, and sepsis.

Noor was turned away from Civil Hospital because they didn’t have space for her. She was referred to us and we ensured that she was admitted to the Pediatric ICU at our partner hospital, RIMS Trauma - where she has been receiving treatment for the past two weeks.

So far, we have covered PKR 350,000 of Noor’s medical expenses, but her total bill is expected to reach close to PKR 1 million.

Her parents both work as support staff and have a combined monthly income of PKR 35,000. They have been navigating an unimaginable situation with their daughter’s health - but now there is hope. Baby Noor is showing strength — after being on and off ventilator support, she is now beginning to make a recovery!

Baby Noor needs your support - her family is also zakat eligible, and we continue to raise funds to support her treatment.

If you would like to contribute towards Baby Noor’s care, please send us a screenshot of your donation and message/DM/email specifying that it is for Baby Noor.

Let’s come together to give Noor the chance she deserves.

Komal’s baby boy was born preterm at 28 weeks. He was extremely tiny, weighing only 1.2 kg, and was in a critical condition due to several high risk-factors common to pre-term babies; these include respiratory distress, cyanosis, dysmorphic features, and blackish discoloration of the lower limbs.

We ensured that Komal and her baby was supported throughout the pregnancy and post-birth process. Our gynae fund exists for emergencies and cases such as this, ensuring that all NICU costs are covered by us at our partner hospitals; Komal’s baby was managed with NPO status, oxygen support, IV fluids, antibiotics, and 24/7 observation. Thankfully, the babies condition stabilized and he is on his way to making a full recovery.

Komal’s baby is just one of many babies that are born pre-term; these babies’ conditions are extremely fragile and in need of constant high-quality support and medical care. Lack of access to care is affected by a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographical access and financial access. MBF steps in to bridge the gap and ensure that no baby is denied access to life-saving care because of these reasons.

Baby A is from Baba Island and came to us for a wellness checkup when she was a week old. His family explained that she had neonatal jaundice, and that they were treating it at home by putting her outside in the morning sunlight. We checked her jaundice markets and realized the severity of the situation; the family agreed to take her to the hospital, and we told our partner hospital’s NICU to expect Baby A immediately. Unfortunately, this was a day of heavy rainfall in Karachi, and the uncertainty and fear delayed their journey. The family managed to take Baby A to the NICU a full 24 hours later, and by this point her condition had progressed to Kernicterus, where jaundice levels are so high they affect the brain. As a result, shehad multiple seizures and was hospitalized for days. Currently, she is undergoing brain imaging to discern how far her development may be affected by this.

Baby A’s case is a real life example of what we call the second delay in maternal and neonatal health. This is the delay in getting to care once the decision to seek care has been made. This second delay can lead to extreme impact on a baby’s life, one caused by completely preventable complications.

We at MBF are committed to standing by Baby A and her family. Her case is a reminder of how important it is to recognize danger signs and get to care at the right Tims. Addressing delays, especially secondary delays that occur after a decision to seek help is made, is as important as the quality of care.

Asma Arfaz, a 35-year-old from Keamari, had a rainbow baby. But what is a rainbow baby, and what does that look like for patients?

A rainbow baby is a child born following a miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death. A lot of the times, after this kind of loss and heartbreak, pregnant women come to us at our clinic terrified at potentially suffering such heartbreak again. Many of them have a history of complicated pregnancies, multiple miscarriages, and have often given up on having children. When they conceive again, they are in need of constant and consistent holistic support.

Asma waited 13 long years before she conceived. She came to our clinic where we made a decision based on the importance of careful monitoring in such a situation. Mama Baby Fund supported Asma throughout her pregnancy, ensuring she received the care she needed for a safe and healthy journey - and here she is holding her baby!

With continuous support and proper medical care, Asma safely delivered a healthy baby boy - this is the reality of readily available and equitable healthcare for all. It leads to moments like this.

Asma’s story is a powerful reminder that with the right care and support, hope can turn into reality. Mama Baby Fund remains committed to standing by mothers like Asma, making safe motherhood possible for all.

Your contributions, no matter how small, ensures that we can continue to help those who need it most.

Here’s a few good things that happened this March at Mama Baby Fund!

We provided over PKR 4.9 MILLION in funding support for women, children, and babies.

• Boat ambulance passengers: 139

NICU/PICU care: 17 babies — PKR 1,633,648
• Deliveries: 41 babies — PKR 1,070,191
• Clinic OPD at Baba Island: 120 patients
• Blood product support: 13 cases — PKR 60,000
• Baba Island clinic medicines: 135 patients

This month was also Ramazan - and so we organized our Annual community Iftaar at baba Island, attended by over 500 members of the coastal communities. We got to celebrate Eid with our Baba Island patients, applying mehendi in our boat ambulance. The MBF team also had a team dinner, and got to sit and catch up with one another after a busy few months!

Thank you to everyone who supports us. You are the reason why our work is possible.

Your contributions, no matter how small, ensures that we can continue to help those who need it most.

In our work, we work very closely with all our patients, and very often we develop a close bond with the women that we serve. Then come those magical moments where some women ask us to help name their babies because of the special relationship they’ve had with us throughout their pregnancy.

This time, we had the honor of helping name a beautiful baby girl, and we called her Amal Noor.

Join us in welcoming Amal Noor to the world!

It’s an honor to stand by women and their children, and only solidifies our commitment to ensuring that access to healthcare is a right afforded to all.

Your contributions, no matter how small, ensures that we can continue to help those who need it most.

07/04/2026

Today all of us at MBF are celebrating World Health Day, proud to be working towards our belief that healthcare is not a privilege - it is a right. Our vision is a future where all women and families have access to safe, respectful, and high-quality maternal and neonatal healthcare.

The unfortunate reality is, for many communities along Pakistan’s coastal belt, access to even the most basic care remains out of reach.

In our work, we see extremely complex situations such as pregnancy complications, gynecological problems, pediatric cardiac issues, neonatal surgeries, and neurological issues in babies. These conditions are made worse by the impacts of climate change, lack of resources, and appropriate sewage disposal infrastructure that has caused a rise in vector-borne diseases, respiratory and gastrointestinal issues, and nutritional challenges that affect maternal and neonatal health.

At MBF, our work exists to provide holistic care to these communities. From our community clinic to our boat ambulance, we are working to ensure that geography or circumstance never determine who gets to survive. Furthermore, we run a maternal and newborn emergency support fund and a gynecological reproductive health fund that provides financial assistance to families in need, covering the entirety the antenatal, childbirth, postpartum, and newborn care journey.

We also run a NICU fund where we fully cover costs for newborns with severe complications through our partnerships with hospitals across Karachi, including Lady Dufferin Hospital, AKUH, RIMS Trauma and Ziauddin Hospital.

This World Health Day, we reaffirm our commitment to making healthcare accessible to everyone.

Your contributions, no matter how small, ensures that we can continue to help those who need it most.

Fazeela is 35 and lives on Baba Island. She came to our clinic anxious and terrified and told us about her story.

She had a history of high-risk pregnancies, and had had two miscarriages and an in-womb loss at 24 weeks after her water had broke too soon. When she found out she was pregnant again, she was afraid of it ending the same way.

She was referred Lady Dufferin Hospital immediately and stayed throughout her pregnancy. MBF ensured that she went for regular checkups, monitoring, tests, and medication. The consistent care helped manage both her symptoms of high-risk pregnancy and gave her the confidence and support she was in need of.

Access to high-quality and timely healthcare ensured that Fazeela successfully delivered at 35 weeks through C-section.

We are delighted to tell you all that she and her baby girl are both stable and happy!

After years of loss, this is the first time she gets to take her baby home.

We’re wishing them both the very best, and look forward to seeing them in our clinic again for a visit :)

Here are some picture’s from the skies over Karachi’s coast today. There are dark clouds and heavy rain across the city, but the coastal communities are often struck far worse by extreme weather events - as we saw towards the end of Ramazan. Baba Island is one of the most densely populated islands in the world, and unfortunately lacks any appropriate infrastructure to bear the destructive impacts of such weather conditions.

We’re extremely grateful for our clinic and our MBF boat ambulance, the latter of which serves as a lifeline for emergency transportation for pregnant women, mothers, and babies with no other way to access medical care. So as the rains continue, we ask that you keep these communities in your thoughts - especially knowing they’re often the first to feel the weight of it.

We thank everyone who has donated to us. Your contribution, no matter how small, ensures that we can continue helping those who need it most.

25/03/2026

Baby S was born at only 1.75kg to Saba after a long and arduous pregnancy. She had traveled from Sukkur to Karachi when her pregnancy became dangerously complicated. Diagnosed with HELLP syndrome — a severe, life-threatening condition linked to pregnancy-induced hypertension — she was turned away by multiple hospitals because of how critical her case had become.

She was also carrying one of the highest-risk twin pregnancies: a monoamniotic monochorionic pregnancy, where both babies share the same sac and placenta. This can lead to sudden, life-threatening complications like umbilical cord entanglement, cord compression, restricted oxygen supply, and unequal blood flow between the babies.

By the time Saba reached RIMS, she was critically ill — and had already lost one of her babies.

Baby S was born alone, weighing just 1.75 kg, and struggling to breathe. He was immediately admitted to the NICU with severe respiratory distress, later requiring ventilator support.

Through this, MBF stepped in to support the family with life-saving NICU care.

Today, we’re grateful to share that both Saba and Baby S are stable and on their way back home to Sukkur.
