🦠 Viral Hepatitis: Know the Facts, Protect Your Liver

Viral hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver caused by hepatitis viruses A, B, C, D, and E. It remains a significant global health concern and can affect people of all ages.

⚠️ Common symptoms include:
β€’ Fatigue and weakness
β€’ Nausea and vomiting
β€’ Abdominal pain
β€’ Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)
β€’ Dark-colored urine

While some types of hepatitis are acute and resolve on their own, others can become chronic, leading to serious complications such as liver cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer.

βœ… Prevention is key:
β€’ Get vaccinated against Hepatitis A and B
β€’ Practice good hygiene and safe food habits
β€’ Avoid exposure to contaminated blood and body fluids
β€’ Ensure safe medical procedures and blood transfusions

Early diagnosis and timely medical care can prevent long-term complications and save lives.

Antibiotic de-escalation is not just a stewardship strategy β€” it is a patient safety responsibility.
Timely review of antimicrobial therapy based on culture results and clinical response helps in:
βœ” Reducing antimicrobial resistance
βœ” Minimizing adverse drug effects
βœ” Preventing superinfections
βœ” Optimizing patient outcomes
βœ” Preserving the effectiveness of antibiotics for the future
β€œRight antibiotic, right patient, right duration.”
Every decision to de-escalate is a step toward responsible healthcare and better antimicrobial stewardship.
