The 24th Convocation of Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC), under the leadership of Principal Prof. Dr. Tayyiba Wasim, was held in a grand and dignified ceremony, graced by Chief Guest Minister SHC&ME Khawaja Salman Rafique and Guest of Honor Prof. Dr. Javaid Akram.
The event marked the successful completion of the MBBS program and the formal induction of graduates into the medical profession. The convocation was attended by 350 graduating students, accompanied by their proud parents, making it a memorable and prestigious occasion.
The ceremony also witnessed the presence of retired faculty, distinguished guests and principals from other institutes, including Prof. Majid Chaudhry, Prof. Nawaz, Prof. Kamran Chaudhry, Prof. Saira Afzal,Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, Prof. Shamsa Humayun, Prof. Alia Bashir, Prof. Zakir Sial and Prof. Amna Ahsan.
The ceremony commenced with the National Anthem and recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the presentation of the institutional report through a documentary. Dr. Mah Jabeen Muneera, Secretary Organizing Committee, welcomed graduates, faculty members, parents, and distinguished guests. The convocation was formally declared open by Prof. Dr. Nadia Naseen, Pro Vice Chancellor, University of Health Sciences. Graduates were then presented for oath-taking and subsequently awarded the MBBS degree, signifying their entry into professional medical practice.
In her address, Principal Prof. Dr. Tayyiba Wasim highlighted the institution’s academic progress, infrastructural development, and continued commitment to patient care and medical education. She emphasized gratitude towards parents and teachers and outlined key institutional milestones, including PMDC recognition of postgraduate programs, strengthened faculty registration and quality assurance systems, expansion of transplant services, improvements in emergency care and operation theatres, enhanced patient facilitation measures, and comprehensive digital transformation through HMIS and campus-wide digitization. She also announced the development of new specialized services, including an upcoming Autism Center.
Guest of Honor Prof. Dr. Javaid Akram emphasized patient-centered care as the foundation of medical practice, encouraging graduates to adopt compassion, professionalism, and attentive listening as core clinical values. He underscored that earning patients’ trust and prayers remains central to the identity of a good physician.
Chief Guest Khawaja Salman Rafique commended the institution’s contributions to medical education and healthcare delivery. He highlighted ongoing healthcare reforms and infrastructure development across Punjab and stressed the importance of respect for doctors and nurses, patience in clinical practice, and humane, attentive patient care.
The Medals Ceremony, hosted by Prof. Dr. Zunaira Kamal, recognized outstanding academic excellence across all professional examinations, awarding multiple gold, silver, and bronze medals along with cash prizes. Hadia Younis was declared Best Graduate of the MBBS Session 2019–2024 for securing the highest cumulative marks across all five professional examinations, emerging as the most decorated graduate of the session. Other distinguished awardees included recipients of the Prof. Tayyiba Wasim Gold Medal, Neelam Tajamul Gold Medal, and AIMCANA medals for excellence in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Forensic Medicine, and overall academic performance.
The convocation concluded with strong reflections on compassion, humanism, professionalism, women empowerment, and service to humanity, reinforcing the guiding principle that AIMC represents the dream, while clinical practice represents its realization.
