Pectus deformities, including pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum, commonly present during childhood and adolescence. In children younger than 11 years, these deformities can often be successfully corrected with external bracing (harness therapy). Surgical correction is generally recommended for patients 12–17 years of age, as well as for those in whom bracing has failed to achieve satisfactory correction or is otherwise unsuitable.
