Clinicopathological Conference ⚕️

11th September 2026 | Ameer-ud-Din Medical College | Lahore General Hospital

The Clinicopathological Conference (CPC) was held on 11th September 2026, commencing at 10:00 a.m. The session began with the recitation of a few verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome note by Prof. Dr. Nazish Saqlain, who welcomed the faculty and students and emphasized the importance of CPCs in promoting clinical reasoning and multidisciplinary learning.

The first case, from the Department of Surgery unit III, presented by Dr. Asim, under the supervision of Dr. KarimUllah. The case involved a 17-year-old underweight female presenting with features of proximal intestinal obstruction. The diagnostic work-up ultimately established Superior Mesenteric Artery (SMA) syndrome, with CT demonstrating an aortomesenteric angle of 11°. Following failure of conservative and nutritional management, the patient underwent laparoscopic duodenojejunostomy, with subsequent resolution of symptoms and weight gain. The case generated useful discussion regarding the importance of recognizing this uncommon cause of intestinal obstruction, particularly in young patients with significant weight loss.

The second case, from the Department of Internal Medicine, was led by Prof. Dr. Khurram Saleem, HOD Medical Unit III, and presented by Dr. Shahbaz Jabbar, PGR. It highlighted the diagnostic challenge of a 53-year-old man presenting with persistent vomiting, drowsiness, irritability and postural dizziness, who was found to have profound hyponatremia. The case provided an excellent platform for discussion of the differential diagnosis and systematic evaluation of severe hyponatremia, particularly the distinction between SIADH and adrenal insufficiency. Radiology input was given by Dr. Sehran.

The conference was attended by faculty members and students, with active participation and discussion during both presentations. The interactive format encouraged integration of clinical findings, laboratory investigations, imaging and management decisions, reinforcing the educational value of multidisciplinary case-based learning.

The session concluded with remarks by Prof. Dr. Nudrat Sohail, Vice Principal, who appreciated the efforts of the presenting departments and participants and emphasized the importance of continued academic engagement, critical thinking, and student participation in CPC activities.
