Environmentally safe and responsible ATH - Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) is now fully functional. A dedicated and honest team not only improves the condition of an organisation but also saves huge amount of funds. Thanks to Hospital Director, Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Afridi and his team of engineers and maintenance team, we have a quality sewerage treatment plant (STP) that is fully functional and will result in proper processing of hospital sewerage in step by step manner. This will not only be environmentally friendly but the solid waste material collected will also be used as fertiliser for our lawns and plants, further long term savings. To make ATH fully environmentally responsible and to ensure proper disposal of all Hospital waste, in addition to this STP, we are also installing a new incinerator to increase capacity to incinerate all hospital waste. Our experienced and competent team of engineers completed the project themselves with full specifications at a fraction of the estimated cost saving millions of rupees. A great team, making a difference, saving cost and saving environment.

Dean/CEO Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad and Associate Dean PGME meeting Chief Residents at ATH regarding implementation of structured training program (STP) and other related academic activities at Ayub Teaching Hospital.
As per vision of Board of Governors, the concept of Chief Residents was introduced for the first time at ATH in order to resolve day to day PG affairs at their own level and ensure implementation of a proper training plan in all Departments.
Reading rooms for male and female PGs were inaugurated last year to provide a secure and peaceful environment for them to study in their spare time. Library facilities are also being upgraded.
Soft skills workshops are being introduced to train PGs in research skills, professionalism, leadership, communication skills etc.
Structured Training Program is another initiative of the Board to ensure academic environment in all units. Till now, PGs were considered as work horses with no emphasis on academics, soft skills and hands on training in their respective specialties. STP was introduced as a mandatory academic program in order to provide a conducive environment to all PGs thereby ensuring their preparedness for the final exam. Regular reports will be sent to BOG and PGMI and steps will be taken to fill in the gaps found in STP. Current Board is fully committed to ensuring proper training and academic activities in order to provide this province with highly trained professionals with highest ethical standards

Expansion of A&E, newly established visual triage Center and walk-in clinics at ATH. Accident and Emergency (A&E) is usually the first point of contact for seriously ill or injured patients. Unfortunately, no one in the past has given any importance to this important section of the Hospital. A&E of ATH was established in 1980, however, since then no one has thought of expanding its structure and services despite passing of over 40 years and explosion of population in Abbottabad and adjoining areas.
Current Board of Governors of MTI-ATH has taken a note of this situation and is working all out to correct the situation. Long term plan is to send PC-1 for establishment of state of the art A&E with a new building and latest equipment as well as specialised staff. This PC-1 also includes a burn section which, unfortunately, is in its infancy stage at ATH.
In the short term, we have expanded the existing A&E unit with shifting of dialysis unit to a new dedicated building which now also includes nephrology unit. The space is now utilised for admitting serious patients needing immediate care. Stroke unit and chest pain units have also been established in the same A&E building. Triage Center is also operational now in this building. We have placed a dedicated new CT scan machine for emergency patients at A&E, new ultrasound machine and very soon Hematology and biochemistry analysers will be provided to save patients’ time and perform all important investigations on spot.
This new visual triage Center and walk in clinic inaugurated now is the brain child of our MD, Dr. Imran Khan. Patients will report first to this “one window” center and get registered at the counter. After a quick initial assessment, they will either be referred to Walk in clinic or A&E. This will significantly reduce load on A&E since most patients reporting to A&E do not qualify as emergency patients and this results in delay of treatment for seriously sick patients. Next step is complete renovation and equipping of A&E OTs InshaAllah.
The Board is aware of the deficiencies that have piled up during the past decade and has resolved to bring maximum facilities for staff and patients alike.

Vision of our Board is to provide best possible facilities to our staff and patients. Work on under construction Hospital canteen is progressing with speed MashaAllah. It will replace an outdated single floor canteen that has been demolished. New canteen will have a spacious kitchen ensuring highest hygienic standards and separate dining areas for attendants/patients and hospital staff. Ground floor is for kitchen and pantry and dining area for visitors with newly renovated toilets. First floor will have covered area with floor level windows for views of surrounding lush green mountains and a terrace for outdoor dining for Hospital staff. Separate kitchen, small female prayer area along with male and female toilets for staff at first floor will be available.
After completion, it will not only add to the grandeur of ATH but will also provide hygienic refreshments in a relaxing environment to our staff and visitors, InshaAllah.
