When ACL Reconstruction Is NOT Needed | ACL Tear Explained
Not every ACL injury requires ACL Reconstruction! 🦵
An ACL tear on MRI does not automatically mean that surgery is necessary. In this video, we explain the important situations where ACL Reconstruction may not be recommended, and what factors should be considered before deciding on surgery.
ACL Reconstruction may not be appropriate in certain patients, including:
❌ Patients with advanced knee arthritis
❌ Low-demand patients without significant instability symptoms
❌ Asymptomatic patients where an ACL tear is only seen on MRI
❌ Patients with an active knee infection, where the infection should be treated before considering reconstruction
The decision for ACL surgery should be based on several factors, including age, activity level, symptoms, knee instability, associated injuries, arthritis, and overall knee condition — not simply the MRI report.
📌 Remember: An ACL tear seen on MRI and a need for ACL Reconstruction are not the same thing.
