🎉 Congratulations, Taimoor Khan

Alhamdulillah, we are proud to share and celebrate this amazing achievement by Taimoor, who participated in a 4-day hackathon organized by Baylor College of Medicine and sponsored by NVIDIA, DNAnexus, and Rice University.

In just four days, the team worked together to design, develop, execute, and present their findings—and successfully delivered some exciting results!

Their work identified 167 novel loci and around 4,400 novel motifs that were not previously referenced in the hg38/GRCh38 assembly. This opens up interesting opportunities to further explore the role of these novel tandem repeats in human diseases.

Congratulations to Taimoor and the entire team for this great achievement!

We are also happy to see the impact of collaborative learning and research support from Dr. Musharraf Jelani, Dr. Qaiser (), Fuzail Ahmad, and Waqas Khan for their support and training.

The workflow is open source: https://github.com/collaborativebioinformatics/inTRuder

Keep learning, collaborating, and making an impact!

Proud to see such a monumental step towards global research collaboration! KMU Peshawar has officially joined hands with University College London (UCL) to tackle neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to Prof. Dr. Musharaf Jelani, the KMU Project Focal Person, for championing this initiative and bringing this collaboration to life. It is leadership like this that drives molecular biology and genetics forward!

Ever felt like genetics is a different language? Let’s talk about "Genetic Geography." 🗺️🧬

To understand your health, you first need to understand the difference between a Locus and an Allele:

📍 The Locus (The Physical Address): Think of this as the "street address" on your chromosome. It is the fixed, specific position where a gene is located (like coordinate 11q1.4). Every person has the same "slots" for these genes.

👥 The Allele (The Resident): This is the specific version of the gene living at that address. While the address (locus) is the same for everyone, the version (allele) can vary, creating the diversity we see in populations.

Why does this matter?
Understanding if you are Homozygous (having identical alleles) or Heterozygous (having different versions) at a specific locus is critical for identifying genetic carriers and understanding inherited risks for rare diseases.

At Rare Diseases Genetics and Genomics, we specialize in precise coordinate mapping to help you navigate your genetic blueprint with clarity.

Ever wondered what your genetic blueprint actually looks like? 🧬 Understanding the organization of your chromosomes is key to identifying potential health risks and ensuring a healthy future for your family.

Humans typically have 46 chromosomes—arranged in 22 pairs of autosomes and 1 pair of s*x chromosomes. A Karyotype is a visual display of these chromosomes that experts use for genetic diagnosis.

Why is this important? Even a small error during meiotic separation (nondisjunction) can lead to Chromosomal Abnormalities, such as:
🔹 Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome): An extra chromosome on the 21st pair.
🔹 Turner Syndrome (45,X): A missing s*x chromosome.
🔹 Klinefelter Syndrome (47,XXY): An extra X chromosome.

At Rare Diseases Genetics and Genomics, we specialize in these complex cases. From explaining tight DNA structures to analyzing karyotype comparisons, we provide the clarity you need to manage your genetic health.

Don't leave your family's future to chance. Get expert insights into your genetic blueprint today.

Ever wondered how your child becomes a perfect blend of both parents? The secret is in the DNA inheritance.

As this simple diagram shows, every child receives exactly:
🤰 50% of their DNA from their Mother (23 chromosomes from the egg)
👨‍💼 50% of their DNA from their Father (23 chromosomes from the s***m)

This beautiful 50/50 mix is the blueprint of life!

Along with normal features for example eye color and personality traits, specific genetic health conditions can also be passed down. Understanding this fundamental process is key to proactive health management and family planning.

At Rare Diseases Genetics and Genomics, we provide specialized services to help you navigate your genetic inheritance, ensuring peace of mind for your family’s future.

Knowledge is your most powerful tool. Take control of your genetic health of your generations.

The future of medicine is here, and it starts with your DNA.

A single genetic mutation—a tiny change in your DNA sequence—can lead to the production of faulty proteins, which are the root cause of many rare and complex diseases. But there is hope through the power of Genomic Therapy.

At Rare Diseases Genetics and Genomics, we are at the forefront of understanding how advanced science can treat the untreatable. We explore cutting-edge approaches including:
🧬 Gene Replacement: Replacing a faulty gene with a healthy one.
✂️ Gene Editing (CRISPR): Precisely fixing the "typos" in your genetic code.
🧪 Stem Cell Therapy: Using the body's own building blocks to restore function.

These breakthroughs are already changing lives in the treatment of:
🩸 Sickle Cell Disease
👶 Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)
👁️ Vision Restoration

Understanding your genetic blueprint is the first step toward a personalized treatment journey. Let our experts guide you through the possibilities of modern genomic medicine.

Understanding Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is the first step toward specialized care and support. 💙

DMD is a severe genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle degeneration and weakness because the body lacks a protein called dystrophin. As an X-linked recessive condition, it primarily affects boys and is caused by mutations in the DMD gene.

Early Signs & Symptoms to watch for:
🏃‍♂️ Muscle weakness and difficulty walking
📉 Loss of motor skills and frequent falls
🦵 Enlarged calves
🫁 Respiratory and heart issues

While there is currently no cure, there are several Treatment & Management Options available to improve quality of life:
✅ Medications to control symptoms
✅ Physical Therapy to improve mobility
✅ Gene Therapy targeting the DMD gene
✅ Supportive Care for respiratory and cardiac health

At Rare Diseases Genetics and Genomics, we provide the specialized guidance your family needs to navigate this journey.

Ever wondered how your DNA works and what happens when it changes?

A gene mutation is like a typo in your body’s instruction manual. Some of these 'typos' have absolutely no effect, while others can change visible traits like eye color or skin condition.

However, gene mutations are also responsible for more serious conditions. A change in your DNA sequence can lead to:
🚫 Genetic Disorders (like Albinism or Sickle cell disease)
⚠️ Uncontrolled cell growth or Cancer

Knowing the causes of mutations—from radiation and chemicals to viruses and inherited traits—is vital for understanding your health risks.

Complex genetic questions can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to navigate them alone. Get expert answers and clarity.

For answers to your rare disease genetics questions, call us today for a FREE consultation at 03338711690.

Not all mutations are harmful; some are even essential for evolution. We help you understand the ones that matter to you.
