The federal government has approved the long-awaited price fixation of 35 new essential and life-saving medicines, with approval for another 45 molecules expected soon. The decision aims to ease critical shortages that have disrupted treatment for patients across Pakistan.

According to officials, the move is expected to improve access to high-priority treatments that were previously unavailable due to delays in price approvals, forcing many patients to rely on costly or unregulated alternatives. Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal raised the issue at the cabinet level and briefed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stressing the urgency of ensuring timely access to essential medicines.
