If you could only learn one acupuncture point, I’d pick this one.
Meet Sanyinjiao (SP-6) meaning“Three Yin Intersection.”
It’s located on the inner side of your lower leg, about four finger-widths above the inner ankle bone, just behind the shinbone. You’ll often find a tender spot there.
Why is this point so interesting?
In Chinese medicine, SP-6 is where the Spleen, Liver and Kidney channels meet. Because of this, it’s traditionally used for a surprisingly wide range of things:
🔹 Digestion, bloating and loose stools
🔹 Menstrual pain, irregular or heavy periods
🔹 Sleep and a restless mind
🔹 Feelings of anxiety and tension
🔹 Water retention and heavy legs
In TCM, the Spleen plays a central role in transforming food into Qi and Blood. So when this system is out of balance, it can show up in many different areas of the body.
That’s part of what makes SP-6 such a fascinating point: **one small point, with many different applications.**
⚠️ Pregnancy: SP-6 is traditionally considered a point that can stimulate uterine activity, so it should not be self-stimulated during pregnancy.
For self-acupressure, try firm but comfortable pressure for 1–2 minutes on each side while breathing slowly.
