To visit Being Gathering is like time travelling through history.
Around Boomland, on the shores of Idanha-a-Nova Lake, lies one of Portugal's oldest landscapes (1). Come with us 👇
🏛️ (2–3) Idanha-a-Velha. The closest village to Boomland, and one of the Historic Villages of Portugal. Walk through a Roman arch and step back two thousand years. Founded by the Romans in the late 1st century BC, it still holds traces of that civilisation and many others — the Suebi, Visigoths and Moors. For centuries, this was a place where peoples and cultures converged. They all passed through, and they all left a mark. Run your hand along the old walls. Stand inside the cathedral. Linger by the stone sarcophagi, still resting where time left them 🪨
⛰️ (4–6) Monsanto. One of Portugal's most beautiful and distinctive villages. Climb between boulders the size of houses, breathe in the granite and the wild herbs, and understand why people have lived here since the Paleolithic period. This is one of the great examples of rock architecture: where human settlements, nature and ancient traditions have grown into one. A journey through time 🐉
🌊 (7–8) Penha Garcia. Around Monsanto, you will also find Penha Garcia and its million-year-old fossils 🌟 Its quartzite cliffs, carved by the River Pônsul, hold traces of a sea that vanished long before us. Press your palm to the stone and touch a world 480 million years old, within a UNESCO Geopark.
💧 And it is that same Pônsul, rising near Penha Garcia and winding past Idanha-a-Velha, that fills the lake Boomland rests beside. The water remembers, and so do we ✨
👉 Swipe to the end (9) to see Monsanto glowing at nightfall, viewed from Boomland.
