🌍 PULPIT at the EANS Summer Conference 2026

We were proud to present the PULPIT project at the European Academy of Nursing Science (EANS) Summer Conference 2026, held on 8–9 July at the OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

As part of the conference programme, Ricardo J. O. Ferreira, PULPIT Project Coordinator, presented a poster showcasing the project's work to advance Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in interprofessional healthcare education.

Under the theme "Nursing Science Shaping Policy and Practice for Healthcare Systems in Challenging Times," the conference brought together nursing researchers and educators from across Europe to share innovative research and discuss how nursing science can contribute to more resilient, person-centred healthcare systems.

Thank you to the European Academy of Nursing Science (EANS) for providing this valuable opportunity to share the PULPIT project and engage with the international nursing research community.

Meaningful involvement starts with truly valuing lived experience 💬💙

Dante Mulder highlights the importance of recognizing patients not just as storytellers, but as holders of essential knowledge that enriches healthcare education and brings new perspectives into the learning space 🎓🤝

By placing patient insight alongside clinical training, PULPIT helps make education more relevant—and supports students in growing into confident, person-centred professionals 🌍✨

🎉 The PULPIT pilot has been successfully completed at Maastricht University!

Bringing together students from different health professions, Experts by Experience (EBEs) and facilitators, the pilot created a unique learning environment where lived experience became an essential part of healthcare education.

Through dialogue, reflection and collaboration, participants explored the value of Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) and strengthened their understanding of person-centred, interprofessional care.

Thank you to everyone who made this pilot possible and contributed to its success.
Together, we're transforming healthcare education through meaningful partnerships.

🎸 PULPIT was excited to take part in Rock in Rio Lisboa on 21 and 28 June 2026, bringing our project beyond the academic setting and into one of Portugal's largest public events.

Visitors had the opportunity to discover the PULPIT project, learn about the importance of Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in healthcare education, and explore how meaningful collaboration with patients can help shape the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Participating in events like Rock in Rio Lisboa reinforces our commitment to making research more accessible and engaging with the wider community.

Thank you to everyone who visited us and helped make these two days a great success!

🎙️ On 18 June 2026, PULPIT was featured in a webinar organised by the Portuguese Society for Clinical Communication in Healthcare (SP3CS), entitled “What if Patients Were the Teachers? Rethinking Clinical Communication in Education and Interprofessional Practice.”

The session was led by Ricardo J. O. Ferreira, PULPIT Project Coordinator, and Carolina Garcez Martins, Patient Advocate from EUPATI Portugal.

Drawing on both research and lived experience, the webinar explored how meaningful Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) can transform healthcare education by placing patients at the heart of learning. Discussions highlighted the importance of clinical communication, interprofessional collaboration, and person-centred care, while demonstrating the value of patients as active partners in educating future healthcare professionals.

By combining academic expertise with a patient perspective, the session reflected one of PULPIT's core principles: learning with patients, not only about them.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this inspiring discussion!

🎉 A major milestone for the PULPIT project!

Over the past months, the PULPIT programme has been successfully implemented across four European universities, bringing together healthcare students, Experts by Experience (EBEs) and facilitators to explore the power of Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in interprofessional education.

The pilot programmes have now been successfully completed at:

🇵🇹 University of Coimbra
🇳🇱 Maastricht University
🇸🇮 University of Maribor
🇵🇹 University of Minho

Each pilot followed the PULPIT learning pathway — from preparatory e-learning and collaborative discussions to meaningful encounters with Experts by Experience, reflective learning, and shared group discussions. Together, these experiences demonstrated the value of learning with patients to foster more collaborative, person-centred healthcare.

In the coming weeks, we'll be sharing highlights from each pilot and celebrating the incredible work of the universities, students, facilitators and Experts by Experience who made this achievement possible.

Stay tuned! 🌍
