Not all Vitamin C is the same — the form matters more than the hype.
If you want maximum results:
Go for L-ascorbic acid (10–15%).
Best for oily, resilient skin + pigmentation + dullness.
But: it can sting and irritate sensitive skin.
If your skin is sensitive or reactive:
Choose gentler forms:
• SAP (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate)
• MAP (Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate)
• Ascorbyl Glucoside
They work slower, but your skin barrier will thank you.
If you want a middle ground:
3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid = balance of effectiveness + comfort.
Acne-prone skin?
SAP is your best friend.
Quick irritation guide:
Most irritating → L-ascorbic acid
Less irritating → everything else above
What to pair it with:
SPF (always), Vitamin E, Ferulic acid, Niacinamide
Be careful with acids + retinoids (can increase irritation)
Bottom line:
Strong → L-ascorbic acid
Gentle → SAP / MAP / Ascorbyl Glucoside
Balanced → 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid
Good skin ≠ strongest formula.
It’s the one your skin can actually tolerate.
