That diaspora network is one of the biggest reasons the Filipino nursing presence became so global. Interestingly, different countries have developed different positive perceptions of Filipino nurses, that is why they hire them. But there is another side people don’t always talk about.
The reputation of Filipino nurses isn’t universally positive.
Some employers may perceive Filipino nurses as:
* too willing to accept difficult working conditions
* less likely to challenge management
* willing to work overtime
* willing to relocate
* willing to accept lower salaries than locally trained nurses
And that can unfortunately contribute to exploitation.
So the same characteristic that makes a nurse attractive to an employer—flexibility and adaptability—can become a disadvantage when employers take advantage of it. 🌻
