🇬🇧 Winter workshop a great success!

Experiencing your first winter in Överkalix comes with plenty of questions, which is exactly why we organised this workshop.

During the evening, Marcella De Geus from the Netherlands shared her family's experiences after their first year in Överkalix. She talked about the importance of investing in high-quality winter clothing and how they quickly learned the value of being well prepared for snow and cold weather.

Proper winter equipment for your car is equally important, including winter tyres, an engine heater, a cabin heater and good auxiliary lights.
Another thing she discovered, and recommended, was taking extra vitamins to help reduce the effects of the darkness during the winter months.

Ann-Britt Henriksson, Ove Henriksson and Lukas Crenshaw demonstrated winter clothing for both adults and children, explained what you should keep in your car during winter and shared what to do if you hit an animal on the road.

We also talked about how to take care of a house during the winter. Having the right heating system is important, not only for comfort but also to protect the property. The heating should always remain on, even when you are away, as water pipes can freeze and burst, causing extensive damage.

The evening sparked many questions and discussions and was filled with useful advice, laughter and shared experiences. Participants came from France, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands, and local residents also contributed valuable knowledge and practical tips that were greatly appreciated.

Of course, we also enjoyed delicious pastries from Olofssons Bageri. A big THANK YOU to everyone for your engagement!

🇬🇧 Engaged villages, new ideas and more ambassadors!

What a wonderful evening we had together with our amazing village ambassadors! ❤️

We gathered over coffee and refreshments to talk about all the exciting things happening across Överkalix. We heard about upcoming activities, new ideas, and inspiring initiatives that showcase the incredible drive, commitment, and community spirit found in our villages.

We are also delighted to welcome representatives from Vännäsberget and Alsjärv to our growing network of ambassadors. This means that even more villages are now represented in our shared effort to create meeting places, strengthen local communities, and contribute to the development of Överkalix.

One thing we are especially proud of is that our village ambassadors also help support people who move to Överkalix. Through their local knowledge, personal networks, and commitment to their communities, they help newcomers find their place, build connections, and feel at home in their village.

🇬🇧 It was cold outside, but the community kept us warm!

A big thank you to everyone who joined our welcome gathering "Överkalix Meets!" in Gyljen. We enjoyed many great conversations between newcomers and local residents, exactly as we had hoped.

During the evening, we had a quiz walk in the dark with questions about Sweden. The winners? The youngest participants and our newcomers! Congratulations!

After the quiz, the conversations continued around the fire as we grilled food and enjoyed each other's company.

To round off the evening, we were treated to a spectacular display of the Northern Lights illuminating the sky above Overkalix.

A special thank you to Gyljen Village Association for providing firewood and serving delicious homemade fika. It was truly appreciated!

Thank you also to Maryna Olofsson from the Future Development Unit for helping with the preparations before the event. Your support was invaluable!
