We are being invaded by comfrey!

Between keeping tarps on the ground for more than a year and spending countless hours digging out roots, there is still a lot left to remove.

Even though comfrey is a medicinal plant, both the roots and leaves, the quantity has become far too invasive in the garden, so I have to remove it. As comfrey is also an incredible plant, rich in nitrogen, it will create a fertile, nutrient-rich compost for the years to come.

Nettle (brännässla) and white dead-nettle (vitplister) are often confused, yet they belong to completely different plant families. 🌿

White dead-nettle (Lamium album) is part of the mint family (Lamiaceae): square stem, opposite leaves, and the typical “mouth-shaped” flowers called bilabiate flowers.

Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica) belongs to the nettle family (Urticaceae) and has tiny hanging flower clusters instead.

And yes, nettles can be harvested without getting stung if you brush the hairs in the right direction! Always a nice trick to know for getting your friends impressed! 😉🤭

The tinctures are made entirely in Sweden, using Swedish ecological alcohol. The plants are grown on the farm, harvested, and tinctured on site.

A weekend celebrating biodiversity at Ulleråker Gård 🌿

This weekend, several free activities are taking place at the farm and around Hospitalsträdgården to celebrate biodiversity together.

At the entrance of the farm, you will find free sage plants to take home, as well as motherwort and peppermint seedlings available through Swish. As every weekend, dried herbs, tinctures and other herbal products will also be available at the café.

The café at is open every weekends:
Saturday 11:00–22:00
Sunday 11:00–16:00

This weekend also marks the BioBlitz led by , with the goal of identifying as many species as possible within 24 hours.

On Saturday at 12:45, I will guide a free edible plant walk through Hospitalsträdgården, discovering the rich biodiversity growing all around us and the edible plants hidden within our urban landscapes.

There are many more activities happening throughout the weekend at Hospitalsträdgården for the Bioblitz, I highly recommend checking their Biotopia and Ulleråker Gård programs and joining us 🌿

Short week at the garden with the wind, cold and rain. But the rain came at the right time allowing us to sow medicinals.

As soon as the sun came back, we were back out in the field, planting mints, and sowing: -Calendula
-Chamomile
-Red clover
-Yarrow
-St John wort
-Californian poppy
-Nettles

If you have been following Nordiska Örter for a long time, you may have noticed that these playful farm videos are quite new.

The farm has grown a lot over the years.
It can also be a lot of work, especially during the peak of the season, so we try to keep things light, take it one day at a time, and make sure we still enjoy the process.

This year, we like ending the working week with some fun. Meet the garden rock band ! 🌞🌱🎶
