🌅Out and About Early This Morning: Listening, Observing, Improving💪

While many were just starting their day, together with our LTA Community Partnership rep, Mr Dennis Ong, Zone 11 RN Chairman Mr PS, and a team of dedicated volunteers, we were already on the ground walking the linkways and discussing an issue that many residents have highlighted , the indiscriminate parking of bicycles along railings and under covered linkways in and around Zone 11.

👀 We hear your concerns.

While our regular assessments indicate that these bicycles do not currently pose a direct obstruction, we understand that they can affect the appearance of the area and create inconvenience during peak periods. This is especially noticeable during the morning rush towards Pioneer MRT Station and on rainy days, when commuters, cyclists, and residents are all sharing the same sheltered walkway.

🚲 What has been done so far?

Over the past year, several measures have been implemented to encourage proper bicycle parking and improve the situation:

✅ Conducted enforcement operations and advisories to bicycle owners to encourage parking only at designated bicycle parking facilities.

✅ Collaborated with volunteers from the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) to engage and educate foreign workers on responsible bicycle parking practices.

✅ Expanded bicycle parking provision in the area through the installation of additional U-bar racks and designated yellow bicycle parking boxes to better meet demand.

Among the ideas discussed were exploring ways to optimise the use of existing bicycle parking facilities, encouraging greater responsibility among bicycle users, and working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that shared spaces remain accessible and pleasant for all.

💡 Today’s ground visit was more than just an inspection.

It was an opportunity for us to observe the situation firsthand, exchange ideas, and discuss practical and sustainable solutions that can further improve accessibility, safety, and the overall experience for everyone using these shared spaces.

Among the ideas discussed were exploring ways to optimise the use of existing bicycle parking facilities, encouraging greater responsibility among bicycle users, and working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that shared spaces remain accessible and pleasant for all.
