TRIBUTE by 79 Tribal Nation is honoured to share our story with Minister Khaw and Ambassador of Japan to Singapore.

Each wooden katana and leather product is meticulously crafted in our humble workshop.

From the conceptualisation to the handcrafting of intricate details, we are inspired by the bold designs of the Samurai class of feudal Japan, as well as the Japanese culture of having a strong pride in their crafts. We seek to incorporate these designs and values into our leather works and wooden katanas.

Following our display at the Sakura Matsuri at Gardens by the Bay, we had the honour of welcoming Minister Khaw, Japanese Ambassador, CE JTC and CEO of Gardens By The Bay to our humble workshop. We shared our passion for hand making our leather products and wooden katanas, as well as our story behind the love for Japanese culture.

MAKING WOODEN SAMURAI SWORDS IN SINGAPORE

At the Sakura Matsuri at Gardens by the Bay early this year, I discovered a group of young who set up a workshop here in , to produce hand-crafted leather wallets, bags and wooden samurai swords or more correctly called katanas. And it is right at (Gambas Avenue)! I visited their quaint workshop with the Japanese Ambassador. They are a group of passionate youths, interested in the Japanese culture and converted their passion and interest to unique products. Each one painstakingly handcrafted and proudly displayed at each corner. They take about 6 hours to make a leather wallet from scratch, entirely by hand. We made a clumsy attempt at it, just for fun!

TRIBUTE's Utilitarian Backpack/Tote bag. -

This Utilitarian bag when fully assembled, in this picture, is a backpack with Red Flower Brocade detailing. Side pouch and shoulder strap can be dissembled. Then, the bag will be a standalone vertical tote. Shoulder straps and side pouches can be attached onto other bags in this Utilitarian series to convert a Padfolio into a shoulder bag.

Would love to make a short video description of the capabilities of this multifunction design. Also, this is the prototype of a whole series of bags with interchangeable parts, as inspired by a Shinobi’s (忍び) unexpected secret gadgets.

Made with Grainy Buffalo Leather and Veg Tanned Buffalo leather.
100% handsewn, handcut and hand finishing.

We are naming this series of bags, our first batch of design inspired by Japanese element and fully handcrafted here in Singapore, the BUKE (武家) series.

TRIBUTE's BUKE 55cm Duffle bag. -

In Japanese, the Samurais were sometimes also referred to as Bushi (武士) or Buke (武家). We are inspired by the Aura given out by a Fully Armored Samurai, and would like our products to also exert a similar aura.

Made with Saffiano Leather and Veg Tanned Buffalo leather. 100% handsewn, handcut and hand finishing.
