ActiveSG Teck Ghee: Singapore’s New Benchmark for Inclusive Sports & Accessible Changing Rooms

ActiveSG Sport Park @ Teck Ghee isn’t just another neighbourhood sports facility — it’s a powerful statement that everyone deserves access to fitness, recreation, and dignity. With Singapore’s growing commitment to inclusive design, this newly redeveloped sport park stands out for thoughtfully integrating accessible changing rooms, inclusive pool features, and multi-generational spaces that welcome users of all abilities.

This is exactly the kind of progress families, caregivers, and persons with special needs have been waiting for.

What Makes ActiveSG Sport Park @ Teck Ghee So Inclusive

The sport park was designed from the ground up to support all ages and abilities. It features:

1. Accessible Changing Rooms (Game-Changer!)

These rooms are equipped with:

• Height-adjustable adult changing beds
• Grab bars and transfer support
• Spacious layouts for wheelchair maneuvering
• Shower facilities with accessibility features
• Automatic door systems for independent entry

This means persons with physical disabilities, caregivers supporting adults, and individuals with high support needs can now participate in sports with dignity and comfort.

2. Inclusive Swimming Pool Features

Sport Singapore
The sheltered multi-generational pool includes:

• Ramp access into the water
• Waterproof wheelchairs
• Sensory trail with water jets
• whirlpool bath and low-impact rehabilitation features

These elements were developed with experts to ensure that seniors, persons with disabilities, and those undergoing therapy can enjoy the water safely.

3. Calming Pod for Special Needs

Sport Singapore
A first in Singapore’s sports facilities — a dedicated low-stimulation space for individuals who may need a quiet environment to self-regulate.

4. Inclusive Gym Equipment

Sport Singapore
The 1,000 sqm gym includes machines designed for users with mobility challenges, making strength training safer and more accessible.

Why This Is a Big Win for Singapore

ActiveSG Teck Ghee shows what inclusive design should look like — not an afterthought, but a core part of community planning. For families with special needs, caregivers, and disability advocates, this is a milestone that expands real participation in sports and recreation.

It also sets a strong precedent for future ActiveSG upgrades across the island.

Accessibility in motion: Pasir Ris Integrated Transport Hub Sets the Standard

Pasir Ris Mall’s integrated transport hub isn’t just about convenience — it’s about dignity, independence, and thoughtful design for everyone. One standout feature is the accessible changing room located right inside the bus interchange, equipped with an adjustable‑height changing table like the Pressalit CT 4000.

Why does this matter?

Because families, caregivers, and persons with disabilities deserve safe, hygienic, and comfortable facilities that respect their needs. An adjustable-height changing table isn’t a luxury — it’s essential infrastructure.

Why Adjustable-Height Changing Tables Are Game-Changers

• Safer for caregivers
Height adjustability reduces heavy lifting, awkward bending, and injury risks. Caregivers can work at a comfortable level, making transfers smoother and safer.
• Dignity for users
Adults and older children with mobility challenges often outgrow baby changing stations. A full-sized, sturdy, height-adjustable table ensures they are supported with respect and comfort.
• Inclusive public transport
When a bus interchange includes facilities like the Pressalit CT 4000, it signals that accessibility isn’t an afterthought — it’s part of the journey.
• Future-ready design
As Singapore moves toward universal design, hubs like Pasir Ris show how thoughtful planning can uplift entire communities.

This is what accessibility in motion looks like — practical, human-centered, and empowering.

“Designed for Dignity: The Accessible Changing Room That Includes Everyone”

The Changing Room That Welcomes Everyone: Why Universal Design Matters

A truly accessible changing room isn’t just a “nice-to-have” feature in a modern mall. It’s a statement of dignity, independence, and thoughtful design. When a space like Pasir Ris Mall’s accessible changing room gets it right, it shows what universal design can look like when it’s done with intention and empathy.

Universal design means creating environments that work for everyone—children, seniors, caregivers, wheelchair users, people with temporary injuries, and families who simply need more space and support. An accessible changing room becomes universal when every detail removes friction and adds freedom.

---

🌀 Spacious turning radius for wheelchairs

A wide, unobstructed turning space—typically at least 1.5m in diameter—allows wheelchair users to move confidently without awkward reversing or tight maneuvering. This single feature transforms the room from “usable” to “comfortable,” especially for larger power chairs or when a caregiver is assisting.

✋ Touchless sliding door for effortless entry

A sliding door that opens with a wave of the hand eliminates one of the biggest barriers: heavy doors that require strength, grip, or awkward positioning. Touchless entry supports users with mobility challenges, parents carrying children, and anyone juggling shopping bags. It’s hygienic, intuitive, and future‑proof.

📏 Height‑adjustable changing table

A powered changing table that moves up and down at the push of a button or remote control is one of the most important universal design features. It supports:

• wheelchair users who need the table lowered
• caregivers who need the table raised to a safe working height
• adults with disabilities who cannot use standard-height surfaces
• seniors who require stable, comfortable transfer positions

This adaptability respects the diversity of bodies and abilities.

🧼 Wall‑mounted, floor‑clear design

A changing table secured to the wall and lifted off the ground improves hygiene and cleaning efficiency. It prevents dirt buildup, allows easy mopping, and reduces tripping hazards. The design also signals structural stability—critical for users who rely on the table for safe transfers.

🛠 Additional universal design features that elevate accessibility

• Grab bars placed at multiple heights — supporting independent transfers and stability
• Non-slip flooring — reducing fall risk for seniors, children, and users with mobility challenges
• Emergency call buttons — reachable from the floor and table height for maximum safety
• Full-length mirror — helpful for wheelchair users and caregivers to check positioning
• Lowered hooks and shelves — ensuring everyone can reach their belongings
• Bright, even lighting — improving visibility for users with low vision
• Clear signage with icons — guiding users of all languages and literacy levels
• Wide entrance corridor — preventing bottlenecks and supporting stroller or wheelchair access
• Lever-style or touchless taps — easier for users with limited grip strength
• Contrasting colours on walls and fixtures — aiding users with visual impairments

Each feature may seem small on its own, but together they create a space that feels welcoming, empowering, and thoughtfully human.

“Old Building, New Heart: Cathay Leads the Way in True Accessibility ❤️‍🔥”

Cathay just proved that heritage and inclusivity can grow together.

An iconic building that once defined Singapore’s golden‑age cinema culture is now defining something even more meaningful: access for all.

The newly renovated accessible changing room at The Cathay now includes a CT4000 PRESSALIT height‑adjustable changing table—a feature that many modern buildings still fail to provide. This isn’t just a facility upgrade; it’s a statement. The Cathay is now not just an iconic building, it is part of shaping a future where PWDs and families with higher‑support needs are welcomed with dignity, comfort, and independence.

What makes this even more impressive is how seamlessly the building owners have designed the route to the accessible changing room. There are no steps, no slopes, no awkward detours—just a smooth, level path that allows wheelchair users to move freely and confidently. This level of thoughtful planning is rare, and it shows a deep understanding of what true accessibility means in everyday life.

A heritage landmark choosing to be inclusive? That’s how you honour the past while providing for all segments of modern society.

This is what responsible, people‑first design looks like.

VivoCity Sets a New Benchmark for Accessible Changing Spaces

VivoCity, one of Singapore’s busiest and most iconic malls, has taken a thoughtful step forward in inclusive design with the installation of the Pressalit CT 4000 changing table in a dry‑environment accessible changing room.

What makes this installation stand out is not just the equipment itself, but the intentional planning behind it. The mall has dedicated a spacious, wheelchair‑friendly room that allows users to maneuver comfortably—an essential yet often overlooked aspect of accessibility.

Even more impressive is the strategic location of this facility. Positioned along the high‑traffic route connecting the mall to the HarbourFront Ferry Terminal, the changing room is easy to find and accessible to families, caregivers, and travellers who need it most.

The building owner also ensured a clean, seamless finish by installing the Pressalit CT 4000 before tiling work began, resulting in a beautifully integrated setup with no exposed conduits—a small detail that reflects a big commitment to dignity and design excellence.

VivoCity’s approach shows what’s possible when accessibility is planned, not patched. It’s a model worth celebrating and replicating.
