🎂 THE BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE RECIPE EVER 🎂
I know, I know, that’s all tall claim but this recipe stands up to it. I’ve made it countless times with various substitutes and different frosting and it has never failed me. Read on, bake on!
Ingredients:
⭐️ 1 cup plain flour
⭐️ 3/4 cup sugar
⭐️ 1 teaspoon baking powder
⭐️ 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
⭐️ 6 tablespoons cocoa powder
⭐️ A pinch of salt
⭐️ 1/2 teaspoon instant coffee powder
⭐️ 1 egg
⭐️ 1/2 cup milk
⭐️ 1/4 cup oil (I’ve tried vegetable oil and olive oil with great results)
⭐️ 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
⭐️ 1/2 cup boiling water
How-to:
⭐️ Preheat oven to 350 F / 180C
⭐️ Grease a 9” cake pan with some oil or butter and set aside
⭐️ Whisk together the flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl
⭐️ Add the oil, egg, milk, and vanilla and mix well
⭐️ Add boiling water to this and whisk again to combine
⭐️ Batter will be quite runny and that’s perfect
⭐️ Pour into prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes
⭐️ Cool completely before frosting
Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting
⭐️ 150 grams cream cheese softened to room temperature (use from block, not spread)
⭐️ 70 grams unsalted butter softened to room temperature
⭐️ 1/2 cup icing sugar
⭐️ 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
⭐️ 1/4 cup cocoa powder
⭐️ First whisk the cream cheese and butter together, then add other ingredients and whisk until soft and creamy
⭐️ Generously slather on cooled cake and add sprinkles / M&M / almond flakes etc on top
🎂 I haven’t tried this cake without eggs so please don’t ask for substitutes
🎂 Double the recipe and bake in two pans for a two tier cake
🎂 If you don’t plan to ice the cake, increase sugar to 1 cup in cake recipe and avoid frosting
🎂 Buttermilk can be used in place of milk
