I found out that in Singapore, only about 3% of mums are still exclusively breastfeeding at 6 months.

This was from Singapore 2021/2022 national breastfeeding and child feeding survey.

It made me wonder what happen in that 6 months, the return to work, the lack of rest, the pumping schedule, the washing, the night feeds, the lipase worries, the freezer space, the bottle refusal, the quiet mental load of trying to keep going.

Maybe the number is not a reflection of how little mums care.

Maybe it reflects how much mums are carrying.

Real story: This bottle actually started with plain water. I kept it around because sometimes wet wipes just aren’t enough when the baby poo gets sticky (mums with babies under 6m would get me!)

Then I thought why not use it with reconstituted breast milk powder, and it’s been surprisingly useful ever since. One of those accidental mum hacks that just stuck around.

A little backstory behind this. 🤍

Some of these mum personalities are inspired by mums we’ve met. Some are a blend of feeding journeys we’ve seen again and again, after 3 years of walking with mums through freeze-drying.

the daycare mum.
the night-feed mum.
the weaning-but-not-ready mum.
the “i pumped so hard for this” mum.

None of them are exactly one person, but all of them come from very real stories.

And you might just find a little bit of yourself in one of them too.

Building a new category in Singapore has been humbling in ways we didn’t expect.

When we first started Wonderbewbz, freeze-drying breast milk was still unfamiliar to many mums here. We were slowly helping people understand a new way of preserving something deeply personal.

And honestly, that put us in shoes that were BIGGER than our size sometimes.

It forced us to learn things we did not know yet.
It made us pay closer attention to questions we had no ready answers for.
It pushed us to understand storage, handling, logistics, clean-room processes, mum guilt, lipase, freezer space, and the emotional weight behind every bag of milk that came through our doors.

Some skills were not things we planned to acquire.
We learnt them because the category needed us to.

Freeze-drying breast milk isn’t something we push for every mum, and honestly, it’s not always the right fit for every season of motherhood too 🤍

Because our job isn’t just to sell freeze-dried breast milk.
our job is to help you figure out if this genuinely supports your life right now.

Maybe you’re:
• going back to work soon
• running out of freezer space
• struggling with lipase or milk rejection
• travelling often
• wanting to extend your breastfeeding journey a little longer
• or simply trying to keep more options open for the future you

And sometimes… after talking through your stash, your feeding goals, and your lifestyle, the answer may even be “not yet, and that’s okay too.

We believe mindful preservation matters more than panic preservation.

Because long-term breast milk storage isn’t just about keeping milk.
it’s about understanding what kind of support your future self and your child may need later on

As your breast milk stash grows, your breast milk storage style may change too.

Some mums:
• freeze every pump separately
• combine smaller pumping sessions into one bag
• top up breast milk throughout the day before freezing

Organise your breast milk stash based on your lifestyle, not perfection

(Personal tip: Set a monthly check for stash management. It helps you spot freezer burn, trapped air pockets, or colour changes earlier.)

Freeze-drying breast milk can be helpful for some families, especially if you’re trying to extend the use of your freezer stash, manage feeding changes, or create more flexibility around your breastfeeding journey.

So before we talk about how long freeze-dried breast milk lasts, we usually start with something more honest:

“What are you hoping this helps YOU with?“

Because that tells us so much more than a storage or usage question ever could.

But it also has to make sense for your baby, your stash, your lifestyle, and your actual needs.

Can it still be freeze-dried if the fat is separated?

Yes, we can accept it.

But here’s what happens on our end:

• Every batch is carefully screened before processing
• We’ll flag what we notice (like fat separation patterns)
• You’ll get guidance to optimise your next stash
• Our goal: better outcome, every batch

Fat separation is a natural behaviour of breast milk under cold conditions, but small tweaks can make a difference.

If you’re freezing your milk, this is something worth understanding 👀

More tips coming.

modern mums are expected to parent like we are still in the 1950s. we are supposed to excel in our work like we don’t have kids, and parent our kids like we don’t have a career.

no wonder we are all burnt out one way or another.

this Mother’s Day, i hope you take time out for yourself. remember that you matter too.

here’s an early Happy Mother’s Day to all you amazing mamas!!

Jolene
