This week records DAY FIVE, SIX & SEVEN of the interview for the recruitment of 3,000 Health Workers under the Ministry of Health, held on 30th June, 1st & 2nd July 2026.

During these sessions, the Chairman of the Comission would call the panelists to order, followed by individual silent prayers. He would deliver remarks with emphasis on fairness, transparency and merit-based procedures in the interviews.

Honourable Simeon Johnny, a representative of the Parliamentary Health Committee, graced the interview sessions on the first two days of interviews held this week. In his capacity as observer and adviser for the process, he expressed gratitude to the Sierra Leone Health Service Commission administration for the set standards to conduct the interviews. He also thanked all representatives for representing their institutions on the interview panel. He further admonished the invited candidates on all required preparations to go through the interview process.

As usual, the Executive Secretary of the commission would admonish invited candidates to ensure they have in hand originals of all required documents. Before the commencement of interviews, she would ask all candidates to present original copies for verification purposes.

The Sierra Leone Health Service Commission remains committed to conducting a credible, transparent, and merit-based recruitment process aimed at strengthening the human resource capacity of the Ministry of Health.

This week marks DAY FOUR and DAY FIVE of the interview stage for the recruitment of 3,000 Technical Health Workers under the Ministry of Health, held on 9th and 11th June 2026.

The interviews scheduled for these respective dates, covered the cadres of Public Health Superintendent (Higher Cadre) and Public Health Inspector. For the Public Health Superintendent, the online recruitment system recorded over 500 shortlisted candidates, all of whom were invited for interviews. Similarly, for the Public Health Inspector, over 400 shortlisted candidates were recorded and invited for the interview process.

During both interview sessions, the Chairman of the Comission called the panelists to order, after which individual silent prayers were observed. He delivered remarks emphasizing the principles of fairness, transparency, and merit in the conduct of the interviews.

Prior to the commencement of interviews, the Executive Secretary of the Commission advised all shortlisted candidates to present original copies of their required documents for verification purposes.

Honourable Bernadette Wuyatta Songa, Chairlady of the Parliamentary Health Committee, graced the interview sessions on the 9th June, in her supervisory and assessment capacity to observe the process. During her visit, she advised the Commission to consider providing preferential treatment and necessary support to pregnant women and lactating mothers to ensure their comfort and convenience throughout the interview exercise.

The 21st of May was scheduled for Day Three of the Interview Stage of the first-ever online recruitment exercise for the employment of 3,000 technical health workers under the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Below is the list of cadres that completed their interviews:

Medical Laboratory Scientific Technician

As usual, the Chairman of the Commission called the panelists to order, followed by individual silent prayers. Further discussions were held on the various pre-agreed standards for proper clarification, especially for the new cadre leads.

Honourable Bernadette Wuyatta Songa, Chairlady of the Parliamentary Health Committee, graced the interview session. She commended the Senior Management of the Sierra Leone Health Service Commission, particularly the Chairman and the Executive Secretary, for the successful coordination of the interview process from the previous sessions up to this stage. She further reinforced the Chairman’s emphasis on transparency and fairness throughout the recruitment process.

Representatives and cadre leads from all participating institutions were present to conduct the interviews.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission thanked all representatives present, especially Honourable Bernadette Wuyatta Songa, Chairlady of the Parliamentary Health Committee, for honouring the invitation despite her busy schedule. Prior to the commencement of the interviews, the Executive Secretary also advised all shortlisted candidates to prepare original copies of all required documents for verification purposes.

Today marks Day Two of the Interview Stage of the first-ever online recruitment for the employment of 3,000 technical health workers under the Ministry of Health (MoH).

As scheduled for today, 7th May 2026, below is the list of cadres that completed their interviews:

The Chairman of the Sierra Leone Health Service Commission (SLHSC) called the panel members to order for the official opening of today’s interview session. Individual silent prayers were observed, followed by discussions on the agreed standards that panellists must adhere to throughout the interview process.

Representatives and all concerned cadre leads from the participating institutions were present to conduct the interviews.

Prior to the commencement of the interviews, the Executive Secretary of the SLHSC delivered a keynote address to all invited candidates. As usual, emphasis was placed on the need to produce original copies of all required documents for verification purposes.

The Sierra Leone Health Service Commission (SLHSC) has Officially Commenced the Interview Stage of the First-ever Online Recruitment Process, aimed at employing 3000 health workers under the Ministry of Health (MoH). This exercise began today, 16th April, 2026, at the main Secretariat building of SLHSC in Freetown.

Director, Directorate of Human Resource Management in the Ministry of Health (MoH),

The Chairman of the Commission officially opened the session with a warm welcome and appreciated all panel members for their presence and commitment. He emphasized the importance of maintaining Fairness, Transparency and Integrity throughout the interview process. He further expressed hope for a successful completion of the entire recruitment process.

The Director, Directorate of Human Resource Management in the Ministry of Health (MoH), expressed gratitude to the Sierra Leone Health Service Commission administration for commencing interviews, despite the unfolding challenges. Further expressed desire for a successful outcome of the interview.

The Executive Secretary of SLHC amicably admonished the invited candidates.
She emphasized that candidates must ensure to have the originals of all required documents that were previously communicated by the Commission administration.

The Defence Medical Services (DMS) of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces holds a Certification Ceremony on Friday, 10th April, 2026 at the Benguma Barracks. A batch of 450 rigorously trained civilian healthcare workers, from many different cadres including Medical Officers were certified. The occasion marks the end of a two-week intense training of the recruited healthcare workers. This initiative is born to improve healthcare service delivery in all DMS centres across Sierra Leone, especially at the 34 Military Hospital. It is also a profound endeavour set to achieve the healthcare initiative of the Government, under the Leadership of His Excellency Retired Brigadier Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

The Sierra Leone Health Service Commission (SLHSC), was well represented by the Executive Secretary, Madam Esther Sovula, to honour the occasion. Also, the Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, the Deputy Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Surgeon General and representative from Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) were all in attendance. Most Importantly, The First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, the Key Guest of Honour, presided over the Ceremony.

Madam Esther Sovula served as the First Speaker, a Key Leader of a Recruiting Body - SLHSC. In her statement, she extended warm greeting on behalf of the Commission’s Administration, acknowledging the presence of H.E. Dr. Fatima Maada Bio and all Distinguished Guests.

She clearly stated the mandate of the Commission: to identify, recruit, and help shape individuals who possess not only academic qualifications but also the character and commitment required to serve our nation with excellence. This mandate jointly supports the purpose of the recruitment and training, to improve Healthcare service delivery to our serving Military Personnel and Communities in Sierra Leone. She described the training period as a firm foundation for professionalism, teamwork, and as a catalyst for a deeper understanding of national service with the Military.

With emphasises on professionalism, discipline, teamwork, dedication, and compassion among the trained civilian personnel, she commended them for their dedication and determination for the completion of the inevitable transformation needed for quality healthcare service. She also thanked and appreciated the parents for their encouragement and the vital role they played for the participants to attain this success.

In closing, she expressed a profound appreciation to H. E. Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, for extensively supporting the Government’s healthcare initiative, investing in Human Capital Development and strengthening the institutions that uphold our nation’s stability and progress. She further reaffirmed that, the Sierra Leone Health Service Commission (SLHSC), as a recruiting body, will continue building a capable, disciplined, and service-driven workforce for the Defence Medical Services (DMS) and all other healthcare institutions in the country.

The Executive Secretary of the Sierra Leone Health Service Commission, Madam Esther Sovula graced the opening ceremony for the training of newly recruited civilian staff in the Defence Medical Services.
The occasion took place on Monday, 30th March, 2026 at the Benguma Barracks, Waterloo.
The training is aim at equipping the healthcare workforce which comprises Clinical Non-clinical health care support workers for quality healthcare service delivery across the country.

In her statement, she recognized the vital roles the Ministry of Defence plays in safeguarding the sovereignty, stability, and security of our nation. She reminded them that, the Ministry of Defence is built on values such as discipline, accountability, loyalty, and service to the nation. These are not just words— they are expectations that must guide your daily conduct.

She further encouraged the trainees to work with integrity, commitment and to always uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

Today, 26th February, interview sessions were conducted for Technical Health Workers in several cadres.

Merit-based promotions and upgrades were emphasised, guided by established government standards to maintain transparency, fairness, and accountability in the selection of qualified and dedicated candidates.

The Chairman and the entire panel were satisfied with the performance and demonstration of professionalism by many shortlisted candidates across various cadres.
The Commissioners encouraged the candidates to remain committed to duty demands and continuous learning.

MEETING TO DISCUSS AND FINALISE INTERVIEW PROCESSES FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF THE 3000 HEALTH WORKERS.

At the Main Office Secretariat, a consultative meeting was held today to discuss and finalise the interview procedures for the recruitment of three thousand (3,000) health workers.

The meeting brought together representatives from the three key institutions— the Sierra Leone Health Service Commission (SLHSC), the Ministry of Health (MoH), and the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO), along with representatives from other health institutions and civil society organisations.
Key agenda items focused on the interview schedule, assessment methods for interviewees, selection criteria for each cadre, and other related technical considerations.

During the meeting, solution-oriented contributions were made by the Chairman of the Commission, the Executive Secretary, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Health Committee, representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Human Resource Management Office, the Chairman of the Health For All Coalition, and other partner institutions.

At the conclusion of the meeting, necessary clarifications were made, and all participants unanimously agreed on the recommendations, which will be applied throughout the interview and recruitment process.
