UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, is mandated to lead and coordinate international action to protect and assist displaced people around the world and to help find lasting solutions for them. UNHCR West & Central Africa is operational in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger,
Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. We are also present in countries which are involved in West & Central Africa crises, such as Mauritania. Our teams in the region help people forced to flee their homes because of violence or persecution. They provide life-saving assistance to families seeking to return voluntarily, integrate locally or resettle in a third country. They also work to address the main causes of statelessness and intervene to ensure that stateless people or people at risk of statelessness can fully exercise their rights. UNHCR helps over a million people in need throughout the West & Central Africa sub-region.
