Somali Microbiology Society successfully hosted a national virtual session to commemorate World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) 2025, under the theme:
“AMR in Somalia 2025: A National Call to Act Now to Protect Our Present and Secure Our Future.”

The event brought together experts from the Ministry of Health, universities, clinical practice, and pharmacy sectors to raise awareness on the growing threat of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Somalia.
Key presentations highlighted the national AMR situation, pharmacy practice and medicine regulation, and the drivers and consequences of antibiotic misuse.

The session emphasized the urgent need for collaborative One Health actions, stronger stewardship, policy enforcement, and responsible use of antibiotics to protect lives today and safeguard future generations.

Thanks to all speakers, participants, and partners who made this impactful dialogue possible. Together, we act now to secure the future of Somalia’s health.
