“Het is niet alleen mijn film. Het is óns verhaal. Van onze voorouders, onze cultuur, ons Suriname”, zegt regisseur Loëlle Monsanto tegen de Ware Tijd over haar film ‘Fort Buku’, die op 28 september in première gaat tijdens het Nederlands Film Festival. De Surinaamse ‘première’ is op 24 november in TBL Cinemas. De film van ongeveer dertig minuten gaat over drie vrienden die tijdens de geschiedenisles leren over ‘Fort Buku’, de schuilplaats van de legendarische vrijheidsstrijders Boni, Baron en Joli Coeur die tot op de dag van vandaag niet is gevonden. Voor de meeste kinderen is dat misschien gewoon lesstof. Maar niet voor de hoofdpersonages van de film. Zij horen ‘onvindbaar’ en denken: uitdaging geaccepteerd! En zo begint het avontuur. Het is een verhaal vol Surinaamse geschiedenis, een snufje magie en een flinke scheut kinderlijke nieuwsgierigheid en avontuur. Samen met cinematograaf Giorgio de la Fuente schreef Monsanto het script. De opnames vonden plaats in Suriname, grotendeels met een lokale crew en de nabewerking in Nederland. Het Cultuurfonds gaf ook wat geld.
